BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (March 16, 2013) – The Stonehill College softball team topped Bloomfield College 12-2 and 12-4 in a pair of games Saturday afternoon on the campus of Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, N.J.

McKillop hits grand slam as Stonehill flies past Bloomfield in game one
Junior Lindsay McKillop (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) went 2-for-3 with a double, a grand slam, and four RBIs. Freshman Lauren Esposito (Middlefield, Conn./Coginchaug) also had two RBIs for the Skyhawks.
Esposito was the pitcher of record for Stonehill, going two innings of relief to earn the victory. The freshman held the Deacons scoreless, giving up just one hit in the sixth and seventh innings. McKillop started the game and gave up one earned run on two hits over two innings. Senior Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) pitched three innings of relief and was tagged for three runs on five hits.
Senior Alexandria Smith (Killeen, TX/Leilehua) was saddled with the loss for Bloomfield. Smith pitched three innings, giving up eight runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks. Ally Schraer (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) started and went two innings before being lifted for Smith. Schraer yielded four runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks.
Bloomfield took a 1-0 lead in the first. After Angie Yoshinzu (Kaneohe, HI/University Laboratory) singled and moved to second on a ground out, Amanda Svenson (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) hit an RBI single to plate Yoshinzu.
After the Skyhawks took a 2-1 lead in the second inning, the teams traded runs in the third to make it 3-2. Stonehill added to its lead in the fifth. With Brianna Gunter (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) on third base, Alison Sumski (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) drove her home with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.
The Deacons tied the game in the fifth with two runs. With a runner on first, Smith launched a two-run shot to tie the score at four.
The game remained tied until the seventh when the Skyhawks exploded for eight runs. With the bases loaded, Esposito broke the tie with a two-run single. The Skyhawks reloaded the bases two batters later for Cayleigh McCarthy (Norfolk, Mass./KingPhillip) who earned an RBI walk to make it 8-4. McKillop then launched a grand slam to seal the game for Stonehill, 12-4.

Eisenmann had two hits, including a three-run home run, and four RBIs to lead the Skyhawks. Sumski also had a home run and Jocelynne Morrell (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Stonehill.

Freshman Megan Ruonavaara (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) pitched a complete game and earned the win for the Skyhawks. Ruonavaara gave up two runs on four hits and one walk, while striking out two.
Senior Ashleigh Williams (Manassas, Va./Highland) took the loss for Bloomfield. Williams pitched two innings, giving up six runs (three earned) on nine hits. Kaila Dugger (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View) pitched the final three innings of the game for the Deacons, giving up six runs (four earned) on four hits and four walks.
Sumski got the Skyhawks started quickly in game two, leading-off he game with a solo home run to make it 1-0. The Skyhawks got another run in the first when Eisenmann hit an RBI double to score Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn./Canterbury) who had doubled.
Bloomfield got one back in the bottom of the first. After Smith was hit by a pitch and advanced to third after two groundouts, Svenson knocked in Smith with an RBI single.
The Skyhawks responded with four more runs in the second inning. With runners on first and second with one out, Wilcox hit an RBI single to make it 3-1. Two batters later Staudle singled to drive in the fourth run of the game. Morrell then hit a two-run single, plating Staudle and Wilcox for a five-run lead.
Bloomfield would answer in bottom half of the inning. Senior Lindsay Ciresa (White House, N.J./Somerville) hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 6-2.
Stonehill got six more runs in the top of the third. With two on and one out, Eisenmann cracked a three-run home run to make it 9-2. Ruonavaara would add an RBI single and Angela Moskwa (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) chipped in with a two-run double to complete the scoring in game two.
The Skyhawks (6-10, 0-0 NE-10) Return to action Tuesday afternoon when they take on Bentley University for a double-header starting at 3:00 pm. Next up for the Deacons (7-4, 0-0 CACC) is a matchup with USciences Sunday at 1:00 pm.
