Middlefield, Conn. freshman named NE-10 Rookie of the Week
EASTON, Mass. (March 11, 2013) – Freshman Lauren Esposito (Middlefield, Conn./Coginchaug) of the Stonehill College softball team was named Rookie of the Week by the Northeast-10 Conference Monday afternoon.
The freshman pitcher takes home her first career Rookie of the Week honor following Stonehill's spring training trip to Florida. This past week, Esposito pitched 18.1 innings over four games and recorded a 1-0 record. Esposito gave up just four earned runs, posting a 1.96 ERA during the week.
On Friday Esposito registered a complete-game shutout against the University of Bridgeport for her first career win. The pitcher allowed just five batters to reach base (three hits, one walk, and one error) and struck out three on the way to victory. Esposito also went two-for-three at the plate, roping two singles.
In five games this season, Esposito holds a 1-1 record with a 3.72 ERA. The pitcher has struck out 13 batters on the year, including three in a 2.1 inning scoreless relief appearance against Findlay University. Esposito has recorded two RBIs on 3-for-14 from the plate this season.
The Skyhawks (4-8, 0-0 NE-10) return to action Thursday afternoon for a double-header with Southern Connecticut State. Game-one begins at 2:30 am, with game-two scheduled for 5:00 pm.
