BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (February 14, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team skated to a 3-1 victory over former Northeast-10 conference opponent Assumption University Wednesday night. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 2-28 overall, while the Greyhounds fell to 22-6.

  • Junior Kyle Heath, sophomore Ryan Davies, and freshman Anthony Galante each registered assists on the night.
  • Sophomore Dylan Meilun earned his second win of the season in between the pipes for the Skyhawks after stopping 22 of his 23 shots faced in net.

How it Happened

  • After a scoreless opening frame with Stonehill outshooting Assumption 17-6, both sides would enter the second period of play trading grade-A scoring chances.
  • Just over a minute into the middle frame, Meilun would be called into action, making an unbelievable save on a two-person breakaway through the Skyhawks' defensive zone to keep the game scoreless.
  • Stonehill would nearly open the scoring less than two minutes after freshman Jonathan Surrette's scoring chance for Assumption when freshman Jake LaRusso rang a backhanded shot off the post.
  • At the 7:01 mark of the second period, however, the Greyhounds would light the lamp for the game's opening score after Decker scored his 12th of the season.

  • The Skyhawks wasted little time knotting the game back up at one apiece 58 seconds later when Cady scored his first of the game after capitalizing on a rebound in front, off a shot from the blue line by Davies.
  • Stonehill gained its first lead of the game at the 11:43 mark of the second as King sent a turn-around wrist shot over McLarnon's shoulder in the net for his first goal of the season.
  • The Skyhawks would look to extend their lead heading into the third to gain a sense of breathing room over the final 20 minutes of regulation.
  • Cady would answer that call with just over five minutes remaining, redirecting a Galante shot into the back of the cage for his second goal of the game to seal the 3-1 victory for the Skyhawks.
