ANN ARBOR, Mich. (January 13, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team dropped its series finale in Ann Arbor Saturday night to the nationally ranked #15 Michigan Wolverines, 7-1.

Highlights

  • Junior Henri Schreifels scored the lone goal for the Skyhawks, marking his team-leading seventh of the season.
  • Sophomore duo Frank Ireland and Dean Schwenninger dished out assists on Schreifels goal.
  • Junior goaltender Gavin FitzPatrick finished the night with a season-high 37 saves in net for Stonehill.
  • Junior Mark Estapa and sophomore T.J. Hughes each netted a pair of goals for Michigan, while sophomore Gavin Brindley finished the night with a game-high three points off a goal and two assists.
  • Senior netminder Noah West picked up his second win of the season in between the pipes for the Wolverines after stopping 17 of his 18 shots faced.

How it Happened

  • Stonehill jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just over three minutes into the game after Schreifels capitalized on a rebound in front of the Wolverines net off a shot from Ireland.
  • Michigan nearly tied the game up at 12:51 into the first after senior Steven Holtz glanced his shot off the post.
  • The Wolverines found the back of the net at the 5:56 mark of the first after a cross-ice pass on the power-play from sophomore Rutger McGroarty was buried on a one-time shot by Hughes.
  • Freshman Conor Ronayne found the back of the net on the power play with 3:30 left in the first. However, after a coach's challenge, the officials would waive the goal due to the Skyhawks being offsides on entry into the zone.
  • Heading into the second period tied up at one apiece, Michigan would take its first lead of the game just one minute into the frame when Hughes netted his second of the night.
  • The Wolverines would continue their offensive momentum, scoring a pair of goals over 60 seconds to jump out to a 4-1 lead with 5:45 left in the middle frame.
  • After riding its three-goal advantage into the break, Michigan would extend its lead to 5-1 midway through the third after Brindley scored his 15th of the season and fifth over the last two games.
  • Estapa capped off the scoring by netting a pair of power-play goals over the final minutes of regulation to seal the 7-1 victory over the Skyhawks.

Noteworthy

  • Senior Ryan King made his season-debut for the Skyhawks.
  • Schreifels extended his point scoring streak to three-games straight after scoring his goal against the Wolverines.
