EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (January 20, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team was shutout, 10-0, against Long Island University Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 0-24 on the season, while the Sharks improve to 11-14-1 overall.
Highlights
- Freshman Anthony Galante finished with a team-high four shots on goal for Stonehill.
- Junior netminder Gavin FitzPatrick tallied a career-high 49 saves, while sophomore Dylan Ghaemi made his season debut in net for the Skyhawks.
- Sophomore Josh Zary and graduate student Remy Parker led the Sharks with two goals each.
- Junior Chris Pappas, redshirt sophomore Xan Gurney, postgrad Adam Pitters, junior John Gormley, senior Preston Brodziak, and senior Noah Kane each scored goals for LIU.
- Freshman goaltender Noah Rupprecht picked up his fourth straight win and first career shutout after stopping all 17 shots he faced in net for the Sharks.
How it Happened
- LIU started the scoring right away as the Sharks netted four goals in the opening frame off the sticks of Brodziak, Zary, and Gormley.
- Brodziak scored at the 3:48 mark of the first before Zary added a pair of his own at the 12:22 and 16:01 marks of the opening frame.
- Gormley capped off the scoring of the first period, netting his third goal of the season in the final second of the opening 20 minutes of action.
- The Sharks continued their momentum going into the second as LIU lit the lamp on a pair of goals from Parker to extend their lead to 6-0 heading into the third.
- In the final frame, LIU tacked on four more goals off the sticks of Gurney (2:35), Kane (6:01), Pappas (9:32), and Pitters (11:19) to seal the 10-0 victory over Stonehill.
