Men’s Basketball’s Stinson Named NEC Player of the Week

EASTON, MASS. (January 2, 2023) – Sophomore Chas Stinson (Charlotte, N.C.) earned his first Northeast Conference Player of the Week honor as well as his first-ever NEC Prime Performer nod Tuesday afternoon.

In last Saturday's narrow loss, 59-58, at Rutgers, Stinson scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, notching his first career double-double. This marks the first double-double of the season for any Stonehill men's basketball player.

Shooting the ball 72.7% (8-11) from the field, 66.7% (2-3) from deep, and 100% (5-5) from the charity stripe helped Stinson score his career-high of 23 points against the Scarlet Knights.

For the season, Stinson is averaging 6.7 ppg and 3.1 rpg. He has been thrust into the starting lineup in five of the last six games due to injuries to various Skyhawk starters. He has started four straight, averaging 10.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.3 apg, and 1.0 spg over that stretch.

Stinson's 12 boards marked a single-game season-high for the Skyhawks and he has led Stonehill on the glass in each of the last four games. His NEC Player of the Week honor marks the first of the season for the Skyhawks. He also earned the third Prime Performer of the year for Stonehill, joining sophomore Tony Felder (Brockton, Mass.) who has earned two.

In Stonehill's first season in the Northeast Conference last year, Andrew Sims and Isaiah Burnett each earned Player of the Week nods once for the Skyhawks. Stinson marks the third NEC Player of the Week in program history.

Stonehill begins conference play on Thursday, Jan. 4 when Central Connecticut State travels to Merkert Gymnasium for a Northeast Conference matchup at 7 p.m.
