New Hampshire Takes Down Men’s Basketball

DURHAM, N.H. (December 11, 2023) – Stonehill College men's basketball fell on the road at the University of New Hampshire, 75-62, at Lundholm Gymnasium Monday night, capping off a three-game road trip.

LEADERS

  • Sophomore Chas Stinson (Charlotte, N.C.) had a great all-around performance for the Skyhawks, setting three new career-high marks, grabbing 11 rebounds, dishing out four assists, and blocking two shots. All three statistics led Stonehill in Monday night's road matchup.
  • Graduate student Max Zegarowski (South Hamilton, Mass.) was Stonehill's leading scorer as he tallied 18 points with three makes from deep on a 50% (6-12) shooting clip from the field.
  • Freshman Louie Semona (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a career-high three steals to lead all players in the game.
  • Clarence Daniels recorded a game-high 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 38 minutes in the Wildcat win.
  • Ahmad Robinson assisted on a game-high seven assists while scoring 13 points for New Hampshire.

FIRST HALF

  • Stinson scored the first two points of the game as sophomore Tony Felder (Brockton, Mass.) found him cutting to the basket for an easy two.
  • Both offenses got rolling after a scoreless opening two minutes as Stonehill knocked down six of its next seven shot attempts while New Hampshire hit five of its next six shots.
  • There were nine lead changes through the first six minutes of action as the Skyhawks hit back-to-back three-pointers to take a 19-13 lead.
  • A 7-0 run from the Wildcats led to the tenth lead change of the game less than halfway through the first half.
  • The two non-conference opponents continued to go shot for shot but UNH took the largest lead of the game up to that point at 28-23 with nine minutes to play in the half.
  • Stinson responded with a corner three to cut it to a two-point Wildcat lead before UNH would build a double-digit advantage at 39-28 after knocking down a pair of contested shots from long range.
  • Stonehill countered the New Hampshire run with the next seven points after a floater and pull-up three from Zegarowski followed by two free throws from Brogna to make the score 39-35.
  • Two points from both squads sent the Wildcats into the locker room with a four-point lead, 41-37.
  • UNH shot 44.1% (15-34) from the field while Stonehill shot the ball at a 44.8% (13-29) clip through the first 20 minutes of action.

SECOND HALF

  • Fifth-year Pano Pavlidis (Queens, N.Y.) got the second-half scoring going with a three-pointer from the wing as the Skyhawks pulled within one point of the Wildcats.
  • Stinson converted on a layup to give Stonehill a 47-46 advantage, its first lead since the sophomore guard also gave the Skyhawks a 23-22 lead in the first half.
  • Clarence Daniels helped UNH regain the lead as he finished two shots at the rim to give the 'Cats a 52-47 lead.
  • After a pair of free throws from freshman Se'yphon Triplett (Springfield, Mass.), UNH continued to build on its momentum, going on a 9-0 run over four minutes to build a 12-point lead, 61-49, with 10:43 left to play in the game.
  • The Stonehill defense stiffened from that point on, forcing the Wildcats into seven straight missed shots resulting in a 10-2 scoring burst for the Skyhawks, trimming their deficit to just four points with 3:53 remaining.
  • New Hampshire responded similarly, holding Stonehill to just one field goal for the final four minutes of the game, closing it out on a 12-3 run to stay undefeated at home, winning 75-62.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Stonehill and New Hampshire met for the first time in Monday night's matchup as the Skyhawks fell to 0-1 all-time against the Wildcats.
  • Stonehill faced its third America East opponent of the season, falling to 0-3 against the conference in its final AE matchup following earlier losses to both UMass Lowell and Binghamton at Merkert Gym.
  • The Skyhawks have started seven different starting fives in 12 games this season as tonight marked the fourth straight game with a different starting lineup on the floor to begin the game.
  • Junior Neal Marquardt (Rockville Center, N.Y.) matched his career-high with six rebounds for the second straight game.
  • Zegarowski has now scored 15+ points in seven games this year, the most 15-point games for Stonehill.
  • Zegarowski led the Skyhawks in scoring for the fifth time this season, marking the most games as Stonehill's leading scorer.

  • Stonehill is back at Merkert Gymnasium on Sunday, Dec. 17 for a non-conference matchup with Division III Hartford at 2 p.m.
