Women's Tennis Swept by Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (April 7, 2024) – The Stonehill College women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to non-conference opponent Fairfield University Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 2-19 overall, while the Stags improve to 7-8 on the season. 

Highlights

  • First-year student Madison Warren picked up the lone set victory on the day for the Skyhawks at No. 2 singles.
  • Fairfield was led by a quartet of double winners on the day against Stonehill.
  • First-year student Lily Malinowski, senior Scarlett Hutchinson, senior Katarina Plumtree, and junior Lucie Tuttle each secured singles and doubles triumphs for the Stags.

How It Happened

  • Graduate student Laina Campos and Hutchinson teamed up to take down junior Jenna Gustafson and first-year student Alice Brito do Rio6-2, at No. 2 doubles. 
  • Malinowski and graduate student Francesca Karman clinched the Stags' doubles point after defeating the team-leading pairing of Julie Holte and sophomore Anneliese Beltran, 6-4.
  • Plumtree and Tuttle capped off the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win over Warren and sophomore Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez. 
  • Plumtree and Malinowski secured their double wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 singles positions.
  • Warren battled first-year student Nicolette Loeffler to a third-set tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets, 6-1, 7-5. However, Loeffler eventually pulled away and took the deciding third set, 6-0, over Warren. 
  • Hutchinson, Tuttle, and sophomore Meg Harding rounded out the Stags' sweep of the singles flights in the fourth through sixth positions.
