Women's Tennis Earns Comeback Victory Over Endicott

Gustafson capped off the comeback victory with her three-set win at No. 6 singles.

EASTON, Mass. (September 19, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's tennis team earned its first win of the season on Tuesday evening under the lights at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts in comeback fashion over Endicott College.

Highlights

  • Sophomore Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez and first-year student Madison Warren led the Skyhawks as double-winners against Endicott.
  • The duo combined for a win at No. 2 doubles, while Rodriguez tied the match up at 1-1 in No. 3 singles before Warren breezed to a victory at No. 2 singles.
  • Team leader in singles victories, junior Marissa Such, earned her second win of the season at No. 5 singles.
  • Junior captain Jenna Gustafson also secured her first win on the young campaign at No. 6 singles.

How it Happened

  • Endicott took home the point after doubles play to take the first lead of the match at 1-0 over Stonehill.
    Warren led the Skyhawks as a double-winner against Endicott, earning the win at No. 2 doubles and singles.
  • Rodriguez and Warren each earned two set victories in No. 2 and No. 3 singles to take over the lead in the match at 2-1.
  • However, the Gulls would respond, regaining their advantage with wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles by Ashley Keaveney over Lindsay Macdonald and Lejla Guster over Anneliese Beltran.
  • The Skyhawks would battle back once more, tying the match up at three apiece after Such finished off her opponent in two sets at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-2.
  • Coming down to the last game left on the court, Gustafson battled her opponent to a three-set match, eventually coming out on top, 10-8, in the third set to cap off the comeback victory for Stonehill.
