Women's Tennis Drops Conference Match to Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (March 23, 2024) – The Stonehill College women's tennis team fell to Northeast Conference opponent Wagner College, 5-2, Saturday night. With the loss, the Skyhawks drop to 2-16 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while the Seahawks improve to 6-10 overall and 2-3 against conference opponents.

Highlights

  • First-year classmates Julie Holte and Madison Warren teamed up for their first win as a double's pairing at the No. 1 slot.
  • Sophomore Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez and first-year student Alice Brito do Rio clinched the doubles point for the Skyhawks.
  • Zuluaga Rodriguez also finished as a double winner on the day after adding her fifth singles win of the year.
  • First-year student Dariana Vera highlighted Seahawks after securing a double win with victories in both singles and doubles competition.

How It Happened

  • Holte and Warren paired up to defeat senior Gabrielle Perraudin and senior Tara Dakic, 7-6.
  • Vera earned her first win of the day at No. 2 doubles after teaming up with sophomore Samantha Bentsianovto take down senior Lindsay Macdonald and junior Jenna Gustafson. 
  • Brito do Rio and Zuluaga Rodriguez secured the doubles point for the Skyhawks at the No. 3 position. 
  • Dakic, Perraudin, and junior Paula Ysabelle Uy took home victories in the first three singles matches over Holte, Warren, and Brito do Rio. 
  • Zuluaga Rodriguez capped off her double victory with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Bentsianov at the No. 4 singles slot. 
  • Vera secured the fourth point of the day for Wagner and clinched her double win after sweeping Gustafson, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 singles. 
  • Sophomore Jasmine Lin and Macdonald rounded out singles competition at the No. 6 position, as Lin walked away victorious in three sets, 6-7 (8-10), 6-4, 10-3.
