Women's Tennis Falls to Eckerd College in Spring Break Finale

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 8, 2024) – The Stonehill College women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Eckerd College Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Skyhawks drop to 2-13 overall, while the Tritons improve to 5-5 on the season.

How It Happened

  • Zuluaga Rodriguez and junior Jenna Gustafson teamed up to earn a win at No. 3 doubles before Beltran and Holte secured the doubles points at No. 1 over junior Kylie Misdorp and sophomore Maya Soligo.
  • Warren and Brito do Rio clinched the Skyhawks' doubles sweep after battling back from a 4-1 deficit and earning a 7-6 win at No. 2 against the first-year pairing of Catherine Cole and Olivia Lindestaf. 
  • Zuluaga Rodriguez capped off her double victory on the day, taking down freshman Maialen Idiakez at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
  • Beltran battled junior Julia Triska to a three-set match at No. 3 singles. However, Triska would win 6-2, 7-6 (12-10), 12-10. 
  • Eckerd College would take the remaining three matches of singles competition to earn the 5-2 match victory over the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (2-13, 1-2 NEC) returns to action on Monday, hosting Lehigh University at 11 a.m. Eckerd College (5-5, 0-2 SSC) matches up against West Chester University on Sunday at 1 p.m. in St. Petersburg, Florida.
