Men’s Track and Field in the Hunt After Day One of NEC Outdoor Championships

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (May 4, 2024) – The Stonehill men's track and field team began postseason play Saturday afternoon on the campus of Central Connecticut State University for day one of the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

After the first day of competition, the Skyhawks totaled 21 points and sit in fifth place while Wagner leads the pack with 81 points and CCSU ranks second with 41 points.

FIELD EVENTS

  • Senior Jacob Pacheco (Merrimack, N.H.) came in fourth in both the pole vault and javelin finals to tally five points for the Skyhawks in each event. He also had the second-best marks of his career in both events, reaching 58.06m (190' 6") in the javelin and 4.60m (15' 1") in the pole vault.
  • Senior Cody DeAngelo (Old Saybrook, Conn.) placed seventh in the pole vault final with a mark of 4.30m (14' 1.25") to score another two points toward the Skyhawk team score.
  • Senior Chris Cox (Warwick, R.I.) set a personal record in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.65m (166' 2"), just missing out on points, finishing in ninth place.

TRACK EVENTS

  • Senior Solomon King (Norwood, Mass.) won both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash preliminary races with times of 10.54 seconds and 20.99 seconds.
  • Freshman Will Tinkham (Stoughton, Mass.) qualified for the 110-meter hurdles finals tomorrow with a fifth-place finish and a time of 15.08 seconds in the prelim.
  • In the 400-meter hurdles prelim, senior Andrew Morin (Beverly, Mass.) placed fifth with a time of 56.84 seconds, qualifying for tomorrow's final.
  • Four Skyhawks qualified for the 1,500-meter final with freshman Brendan Wilder (Waltham, Mass.) leading the pack, coming in second place in 3:54.84.
  • Senior Connor Hughes (Melrose, Mass.) placed fifth, setting a new PR at 3:55.92 while freshman Nicholas Davies (Auckland, New Zealand) finished in ninth with a time of 3:58.66.
  • Freshman Colin Keane (Blackwood, N.J.) came in 12th place with a new PR of 4:00.55 for the final spot in tomorrow's 1500m final.
  • In one of two track events that were finals on Saturday, fifth-year Colin Black (Hopedale, Mass.) finished the 10,000-meter run in 31:16.92 to place fifth, earning the Skyhawks four points while setting a new PR in the 10k.
  • Running in his first-ever 10,000m race was sophomore Nicholas Cozzolino (Westerly, R.I.) who placed 10th with a time of 32:38.74.
  • In the other final event, the four-man team of Hughes, Davies, Wilder, and sophomore Thomas Forde (Mystic, Conn.) finished the 4x800-meter relay race in fourth place, crossing the finish line in 7:52.17 to gain five points in their first 4x800m relay race.
