King Breaks Two School Records as Men’s Track and Field Begins Outdoor Season at UMass Flagship Opener

AMHERST, Mass. (April 7, 2024) - The Stonehill College men's track and field team competed in the University of Massachusetts Flagship Opener Sunday afternoon at the UMass Track and Field Complex in the first meet of the outdoor season.

FIELD EVENTS

  • Senior Jacob Pacheco (Merrimack, N.H.) had two top-four finishes, placing third in the javelin with a throw of 51.93m (170' 4") while placing fourth in the pole vault, reaching 4.10m (13' 5.25").
  • Freshman Drew Pierson (Ellsworth, Maine) came in fifth place in his first outdoor triple jump, leaping 12.70m (41' 8"), and came in seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.80m (5' 10.75").
  • Sophomore Levi Wurster (Coventry, R.I.) finished one spot ahead of Pierson in the triple jump, placing fourth with a distance of 12.97m (42' 6.75"), tying her personal best.

TRACK EVENTS

  • Senior Solomon King (Norwood, Mass.) had the best finishes of the day for the Skyhawks, coming in first place in the 200m dash with a personal best time of 20.87 seconds. This also broke the outdoor 200m Stonehill school record that was held by Torrey Price (21.46 seconds) since the New England Outdoor Championships on May 9, 2009.
  • King also won the 400m dash with a time of 48.54 seconds, setting another outdoor school record by surpassing Joe Connolly's time of 48.62 seconds at NE Championships on May 11, 2019.
  • Freshman Will Tinkham (Stoughton, Mass.) placed sixth in the 110m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.86 seconds
  • Freshman Brendan Wilder (Waltham, Mass.) came in fourth place in his first 1500m run, finishing in 3:54.46 while also making his debut in the 5000m run with a time of 16:12.25, placing ninth.

  • Stonehill track and field is back in action on Friday, April 12 for the Friar Invitational at Providence College beginning at 5 p.m.
