NEC Honors King as Track Athlete of the Week After Another Record-Breaking Performance

EASTON, Mass. (April 17, 2024) – For the second consecutive week, senior Solomon King (Norwood, Mass.) collected the honor of Northeast Conference Track Athlete of the Week and Prime Performer, the conference announced on Wednesday.

The Stonehill College men's track and field team competed in the University of Massachusetts Commonwealth Invite Saturday afternoon at the UMass Track and Field Complex. As a team, the Skyhawks came in third place out of seven teams with 80 points, finishing behind UMass with 125 points and New Hampshire with 100 points.

For the second week in a row, King made Stonehill history, breaking the outdoor 100-meter dash school record with a time of 10.56 seconds to win the event on Saturday. He surpassed the Stonehill school record that was held by Torrey Price (10.61 seconds) since the New England Outdoor Championships on May 9, 2008.

King now sits atop the NEC leaderboards in both the 100m and 200m dashes (20.87 seconds). The senior sprinter also ranks sixth in the conference in the 400m with a time of 48.54 seconds.

Kings holds the outdoor school records in the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter dashes as well as being a part of the 4x100-meter relay team that set a new school record last spring.

Stonehill track and field is back in action next weekend for the Holy Cross Invite in Worcester, Mass. on Saturday, April 20 starting at 10 a.m.
