King Named NEC Co-Track Athlete of the Week After Record-Breaking Opening Weekend

EASTON, Mass. (April 10, 2024) – Senior Solomon King (Norwood, Mass.) collected his first Northeast Conference Track Athlete of the Week and his first Prime Performer award of the outdoor season, the conference announced on Wednesday.

The Stonehill College men's track and field team opened its outdoor season at the University of Massachusetts Flagship Opener Sunday afternoon at the UMass Track and Field Complex. King shares the honor of Track Athlete of the Week with Edward Williams Jr. of Central Connecticut State. Williams Jr. set a CCSU program record in the 110m hurdles at the same meet.

King had the best finishes of the day for the Skyhawks, coming in first place in the 200m dash with a personal best time of 20.87 seconds. This also broke the outdoor 200m Stonehill school record that was held by Torrey Price (21.46 seconds) since the New England Outdoor Championships on May 9, 2009. This also marks the top time in the NEC this outdoor season.

King also won the 400m dash with a time of 48.54 seconds, setting another outdoor school record by surpassing Joe Connolly's time of 48.62 seconds at NE Championships on May 11, 2019. His time of 48.54 seconds ranks fourth in the NEC in the outdoor 400m.

Stonehill track and field is back in action at two separate meets this weekend with the distance runners traveling to the Friar Invitational Friday at 5 p.m. at Providence College before the whole team goes back to UMass to compete in the Commonwealth Invite on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
