King Ties Top Mark in the NEC as Men’s Track and Field Competes at URI Invitational

KINGSTON, R.I. (January 20, 2024) – Senior Solomon King (Norwood, Mass.) tied the top mark in the high jump in the Northeast Conference as the Stonehill men's track and field team competed in the University of Rhode Island Invitational at Mackal Field House Saturday afternoon.

The senior sprinter and multi-event athlete now sits atop the leaderboards for three different events (60m, 200m, HJ) in the NEC.

FIELD EVENTS

  • King tied the top mark in the Northeast Conference this season, leaping to a height of 1.96m in the high jump to place fourth.
  • Junior Parker Hagen (Newport, R.I.) placed second in the triple jump, reaching a mark of 13.34m.
  • Sophomore Levi Wurster and freshman Drew Pierson (Ellsworth, Maine) also competed in the triple jump, placing fifth and sixth.
  • Pierson set a new personal best in the high jump with a leap of 1.86m, coming in a tie for 11th.
  • Junior Sean Theurer (Burlington, Mass.) had the best mark of the indoor season for Stonehill in the long jump with a distance of 6.26m, placing 15th.
  • Sophomore Jonathan Scampoli (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) set a new personal best in the shot put with a toss of 14.05m that gave him a 10th-place finish. This was the top throw of the indoor season for the Skyhawks this year.
  • Freshman Joseph Chesney (Cumberland, R.I.) came in 12th place in the shot put with the best throw of his young career, 13.57m.
  • Senior Chris Cox (Warwick, R.I.) placed 15th in the weight throw with a throw of 13.63m.
  • Junior Jacob Pacheco (Merrimack, N.H.) moved into the top five in the NEC, placing third in the pole vault this afternoon with a mark of 4.25m.

TRACK EVENTS

  • King continued his dominance in the 60m dash this season with a first-place finish and a time of 6.88 seconds, already holding the top time in the conference at 6.81 seconds.
  • Junior Louis Warner (Kinderhook, N.Y.) finished in third place in the 500m race with a personal best time of 1:07.29 that would put him in the NEC's top-five runners in the event.
  • Senior Andrew Morin (Beverly, Mass.) came in ninth place in the 400m, clocking in at 52.79 seconds.
  • Fifth-year Reilly Johnston (Providence, R.I) and junior Jace Hollenbach (Topsham, Maine) placed 14th and 15th in the mile race with times of 4:28.1 and 4:29.18.
  • Freshman Matthew Malora (Harrington Park, N.J.) made his collegiate debut in the 1000m race, placing seventh with a time of 2:35.54.
  • The 4x800m relay team of Warner, Malora, Johnston, and Hollenbach placed fifth, crossing the finish line at a time of 8:16.39.
  • In the 4x400m relay race, the team of junior Shea Drugan (Westfield, Mass.), junior Jackson Domingo (Smithfield, R.I.), senior John Paulhamus (Nashua, N.H.), and freshman Jon Dougherty came in eighth place, combining for a time of 3:32.04.
