King Breaks School and Facility Record on Senior Day at 15th Annual Skyhawk Invite

EASTON, Mass. (April 27, 2024) – Senior Solomon King (Norwood, Mass.) broke the W.B. Mason Stadium facility record as well as his own Stonehill track and field outdoor record in the 100-meter dash as the Skyhawks celebrated senior day at the 15th Annual Skyhawk Invite.

The Skyhawks won the event, scoring 216 points as a team out of seven schools that competed on Saturday. Merrimack came in second with 119 points and Holy Cross took third place with 110 points.

FIELD EVENTS

  • Senior Jacob Pacheco (Merrimack, N.H.) placed second in the pole vault, hitting a mark of 4.55m (14'11.25") for the second week in a row just behind his personal record of 4.56m (14'11.5") in the outdoor PV.
  • Pacheco won the javelin throw and moved into third in the Northeast Conference with a toss of 58.90m (193' 3"), setting a new PR.
  • Freshman Max Bishop (Hopkinton, N.H.) placed third in the javelin and remains seventh in the conference in the event with his personal best throw of 51.95m (170' 5").
  • Senior Cody DeAngelo (Old Saybrook, Conn.) came in third in the pole vault, reaching his best height of the spring with a 4.25m (13' 11.25") vault.
  • The freshman duo of Drew Pierson (Ellsworth, Maine) and Keagan Fletcher (Wrentham, Mass.) finished back-to-back in the high jump as Pierson set a new PR at 1.93m (6' 4") to come in second while Fletcher hit a mark of 1.88m (6' 2"), also a new PR. Pierson now ranks third in the NEC in the high jump and first among freshmen.
  • Junior Parker Hagen (Newport, R.I) won the long jump, leaping 6.60m (21' 8") to set a new PR and move into the top 10 in the NEC. Hagen also won the triple jump and hit the second-best mark in the conference this spring with a new PR of 14.04m (46' 0.75").
  • Pierson followed up Hagen with a PR of his own in the triple jump, placing third and reaching a distance of 13.31m (43' 8").
  • Junior Sean Theurer (Burlington, Mass.) also earned points in the long jump, placing sixth with a jump of 6.06m (19' 10.75").
  • Freshman Joseph Chesney (Cumberland, R.I.) earned a new PR in the shot put as he placed fifth after hitting a mark of 14.46m (47' 5.25"), the fifth-best throw in the conference this spring. Chesney placed fourth in the discus, reaching a PR of 40.93m (134' 3").
  • Junior Michael Gozzo (Weymouth, Mass.) also PR'd in the shot put, coming in eighth place with a toss of 13.48m (44' 2.75").
  • Sophomore Eli Grover (Falmouth, Maine) came in third in the discus throw, reaching a mark of 41.64m (136' 7"), setting a new PR for the third week in a row.
  • Senior Chris Cox (Warwick, R.I.) set a new PR in back-to-back weeks in the discus, hitting a mark of 38.45m (126' 1"). Cox also placed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.02m (154' 3").

TRACK EVENTS

  • King broke a Stonehill record for the fourth consecutive week while also setting the W.B. Mason Stadium facility record in the 100m dash, setting the top time in the conference at 10.43 seconds. King also anchored the 4x100-meter relay team that broke the outdoor school record on Saturday, winning the event with a time of 41.48 seconds.
  • King won his third event of the day when he finished the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.35 seconds.
  • Joining King on the record-breaking 4x100m relay team was sophomore Patrick Morin (Barnstable, Mass.), junior Shea Drugan (Westfield, Mass.), and freshman Jon Dougherty (Reading, Mass.).
  • Drugan placed fourth in the 100m dash, setting a PR of 10.86 seconds while placing second in the 200m dash with a time of 22.16 seconds.
  • Morin also PR'd in the 100m dash, coming in sixth place and clocking in at 10.97 seconds. Dougherty finished a hundredth of a second behind Morin at 10.98 seconds in his first-ever 100m dash. Dougherty also hit a PR in the 200m dash, finishing in 22.41 seconds to place fifth.
  • Freshman Will Tinkham (Stoughton, Mass.) set a new PR and won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.90 seconds.
  • Senior Andrew Morin (Beverly, Mass.) came in second place in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 56.89 seconds.
  • In the 800-meter run, junior Louis Warner (Kinderhook, N.Y.) finished in third place as he ran the mid-distance event in 1:55.60, recording a new PR.
  • Seven of the top eight finishers in the 1500-meter run were Skyhawks as freshman Brendan Wilder (Waltham, Mass.) paced the pack with a time of 3:52.99 despite being the lone Skyhawk to not set a PR in the event.
  • Freshman Brayton Gazerro (Coventry, R.I.) ran in the 1500m for the first time in his young career, placing second as he finished the race in 3:56.4.
  • Junior Jace Hollenbach (Topsham, Maine) placed third in 1500m with a time of 3:57.24.
  • Freshman Nicholas Davies (Auckland, New Zealand) came in fourth place, finishing in 3:57.47.
  • Also competing in the 1500m was senior Connor Hughes (Melrose, Mass.) who clocked in at 3:57.83 to place sixth, and fifth-year Reilly Johnston (Providence, R.I.) who finished right after Hughes in 3:58.02.
  • Fifth-year Colin Black (Hopedale, Mass.) and senior Patrick Garratt (Westwood, Mass.) placed first and second in the 5000-meter run with Black finishing in 15:13.01 while Garratt finished in 15:49.01.
  • Freshman Ian Bubar (Warwick, R.I.) PR'd in the 5k with a time of 15:52.59 to place fourth.

  • Stonehill Track and Field will be in New Britain, Connecticut next weekend for the Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships beginning on Saturday, May 4 before ending the next day.
