The Details

  • Less than two minutes into the match (01:42), Egner got past her defender and pushed up where she put the past Copley for an early 1-0 lead. Later in the period (18:36), the Knights added on a second goal when Martinez-Montoya took a penalty kick and found an open spot on the right side, and doubled the Fairleigh Dickinson lead.
  • Four minutes later (22:27), Dumaresq found Anselmo near the box and after she made a few moves to get past multiple defenders, she buried her shot and cut the deficit to one.
  • Stonehill continued their momentum in the first when Dumaresq forced a turnover near midfield and pushed toward the Knights goal. She sent a leading pass to Clement who drove toward the right side and caught an out-of-place Nielsen and put her shot out of the Knights goalie's reach and evened the contest at two.
  • As the half came to a close (44:29), Egner pushed a pass up to Martinez-Montoya who put home a one-timer in the box past Copley's right side and took a 3-2 lead into halftime.
  • 13 minutes into the second half, Dumaresq forced yet another turnover, this time at the top of the goalie box, and dribbled forward and made a great move to fake out Nielsen and tapped the ball into the net.
  • Nearly 10 minutes later (67:50), the Skyhawks drew a penalty kick after Clement got tripped in the box. As she positioned herself for the penalty kick, she lined her shot past Nielsen's left side for the go-ahead goal.
  • From there, Stonehill's defense and Copley made big-time stops which kept Fairleigh Dickinson off the board. The Knights had a great chance at 81:27 when Dominque Liberto put a shot on net from a little before the box on the left side that ended up being stopped by Copley.
  • The Knights best chance to even the contest came at 82:59 when Egner sent a corner toward the middle of the box where Mona Schlegl had a seemingly open shot on net as Copley was out of place and the Skyhawks defense appeared out of sorts. However, Bella MacNeil was in the right place at the right time in front of the net and cleared out Schlegl's shot and ultimately, Stonehill held on for the 4-3 win.
  • Clement's multi-goal game is her second of the season (prev. Aug. 26 at Adams State-two goals) and third of her career.
  • Copley's nine saves marked the third time this year she posted nine or more saves. She has done so two other times in her career.

After being projected to finish 10th in the NEC Women's Soccer Preseason Rankings, the Skyhawks defied the projections and finished sixth with a 3-5-1 (10 points) conference record and an overall record of 4-13-1. With today's win, the Purple and White's season comes to an end but the squad will look to build off the momentum from these last three games and come into the 2023 season stronger.
