Women's Golf Improves on Day Two in Texas

Annarummo posts second round 82 to finish with two-day score of 161

AUSTIN, Texas (February 25, 2020) - The Stonehill College women's golf team wrapped up play at its spring opening tournament today with second round action at the 2020 SEU Crosswind Gloves Invitational, hosted by Saint Edward's University, on the 5,810-yard, par-70 layout at Onion Creek Country Club today.

Sophomore Alexis Annarummo trimmed two strokes off her first-round score with a round of 82 this morning to finish the two-day event tied for 62nd in the field of 89 golfers with a two-day total of 166. She followed up two birdies on Monday with another on the par-4 fourth hole today, adding five pars and just one double-bogey on her scorecard.

Sophomore Sloane Van Zanen saw the biggest improvement from her first round, closing with a round of 80 – the lowest by a Stonehill golfer over the two days – after scoring a 90 on Monday for a two-day score of 170 to finish tied for 69th overall. Van Zanen also turned in a more consistent round today, carding a birdie on the par-4 16th hole along with seven pars and just one double-bogey.

Stonehill shaved eight strokes off its Monday team score of 348 with a 340 team score today, finishing 14th in the team standings with a two-day score of 688. West Texas A&M University maintained its position atop the team standings with a two-day score of 587 (290-297), six strokes in front of Arkansas Tech (593). The Buffs were led by individual medalist Ueakarn Songprasert, who followed up a two-under-par 68 on Monday with a 72 and edged Elena Castanon (70-70=140) of host St. Edward's on the first playoff hole.

  • Freshman Julia Dapron was among those from Stonehill who showed improvement on Tuesday, following up her round of 87 on Monday with an 86 today for a two-day total of 173 to finish 74th.
  • Sophomore Emma Beaulieu and freshman Emily Kase placed 78th and tied for 83rd, respectively for Stonehill. Beaulieu posted a two-day score of 179 (87-92), while Kase finished at 184 (92-92).
  • Junior Katelyn Jylkka and senior Jennifer Kornacki competed individually at the tournament. Jylkka was among those with improvement on day two, carding a round of 93 after a first round 98 for a two-day score of 191 to finish tied for 85th, while Kornacki posted a two-day score of 221 (108-113).

Stonehill returns to the course on Sunday, March 29, for the first round of the Adelphi Ladies' Invitational, hosted by Adelphi University, at Hempstead Golf and Country Club in Hempstead, New York. The Skyhawks will host its first tournament on Thursday and Friday, April 16 and 17 at Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton.
