Freshmen lead Skyhawks to opening round 339, 15 shots from first

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (September 8, 2019) -  The Stonehill College women's golf team sits in third place in the team standings after the opening round of the Saint Rose Fall Invitational, hosted by The College of Saint Rose, at the par-72, 5,706-yard layout at Western Turnpike Golf Club today.

Stonehill was led by two of its freshmen on the opening day of its first tournament of the year, as the Skyhawks posted a 339 team score for third place out of the seven teams competing at the event. The Skyhawks trail second place Southern New Hampshire University (332) by seven strokes and first place Franklin Pierce University (324) by 15 heading into the second round tomorrow. Assumption College (345) is fourth and host Saint Rose (346) fifth in the team standings. Jinnapat Rittawee of Franklin Pierce and American International College's Paulette Romero share the individual lead after carding six-over-par rounds of 78.

Freshman Emily Kase shined in her collegiate debut by carding an opening round 82 (+10) to tie for eighth place on the individual leaderboard, recording three birdies and five pars in her round, to sit four strokes off the lead. Classmate Abby Jaye posted a round of 84 for 13th place overall, birdieing the par-four tenth hole and adding five pars.

Sophomore Alexis Annarummo follows close behind for Stonehill with an opening round 85 for a tie for 14th place, posting a birdie on the par-five, third hole. Rounding out the Skyhawks scoring rounds was sophomore Sloane Van Zanen with a round of 88 for a tie for 20th place, notching a birdie on the par-five 17th and six pars. Freshman Julia Dapron is tied for 24th on the leaderboard with a round of 89, while junior Katelyn Jylkka carded a 95 and senior Jennifer Kornacki registered a 96.

Stonehill will return for day two of the Saint Rose Fall Invitational tomorrow, when the second and final round tees off at 9:30 a.m.
