Women's Golf Finishes Program-Best Third at Saint Rose

Van Zanen and Annarummo post top ten individual finishes to lead Skyhawks

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (September 9, 2019) -  The Stonehill College women's golf team turned in a program-best third place team finish, paced by two top-ten performances, as play wrapped up at the season-opening Saint Rose Fall Invitational, hosted by The College of Saint Rose, at the par-72, 5,706-yard layout at Western Turnpike Golf Club today.

After being led by two freshmen in Sunday's opening round, the sophomores led the way on Monday, with classmates Sloane Van Zanen and Alexis Annarummo posting top-ten finishes to lead Stonehill to a program-best third place team finish. The Skyhawks finished with a two-day score of 668 (339-329), improving ten strokes from their Sunday score. Franklin Pierce University took the team title with a score of 649 (324-325), followed by Southern New Hampshire University at 665 (332-333) as Stonehill's second round team score was the third-lowest team score of the weekend behind only Franklin Pierce's two rounds. The Ravens were led by medalist Jinnapat Rittawee, who finished the two day event with a 12-over-par score of 156 (78-78), edging the field by two strokes.

Van Zanen trimmed 11 strokes off her opening round score with a five-over-par round of 77 this morning to move 11 spots up the leaderboard with a two-day score of 165 (88-77). Her round today is the second-lowest single round in program history after she posted two birdies and eight pars, playing the back nine in two-over-par 38. The ninth place finish marks her third career top ten finish. Annarummo followed up her first round 85 with an 81 today for a two-day score of 166 to finish tied for tenth overall, marking her third career top ten.

Freshman Abby Jaye finished 13th overall with a two-day score of 167, trimming one stroke off her Sunday score with an 83 as she carded ten pars. Classmate Emily Kase placed 17th overall with a score of 170 (82-88) to round out the Skyhawks scoring players. Stonehill's third freshman, Julia Dapron competed as an individual and tied for 15th overall with a score of 169 (89-80).

Rounding out Stonehill's scores from the tournament are junior Katelyn Jylkaa with a score of 186 (95-91) to finish tied for 37th, while senior Jennifer Kornacki posted 197 (96-101) for 44th.

Stonehill is back on the course on Monday and Tuesday, September 30 and October 1, when it competes at the Penmen Fall Invitational, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University, at Lake Sunapee Country Club.
