The Game
Stonehill College returns to Merkert Gymnasium for its second and final home game in the month of February as it hosts former Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne College for a Northeast Conference matchup on Paula Sullivan Court for its Alumnae Day game this afternoon. The Skyhawks aim to end a run of four-straight defeats after a 74-56 setback at Merrimack on Thursday, but have won three of their last five at home. The Dolphins are winners of two-straight and five of six after clinching a spot in the upcoming NEC Tournament with their 69-54 triumph at Central Connecticut State on Thursday night.

Welcome Back Alumnae!
The Stonehill women's basketball program hosts its annual Alumnae Day game this afternoon, welcoming all its alumnae over the course of the program's rich 53-year history. Check in and an appetizer hour for alumnae, friends and family will start in the Merkert Gym lobby at 1 p.m., with today's game at 2 p.m., with a postgame reception in Martin Auditorium at 4 p.m., following the game. Last Time Out
Merrimack was dominant on the glass and used a pair of double-double performances to fend off Stonehill 74-56 in a Northeast Conference matchup on Bert Hammel Court. Madison Roman and Thalia Shepard led four Merrimack players in double-figures with double-double performances. Roman scored a game-high 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting with 11 rebounds (six offensive) and four steals, while Shepard added 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Warriors. Jayme DeCesare added 13 points, seven boards and three assists for Merrimack, while Rose Caso rounded out the Warriors in double-figures with 11 points and three rebounds. Seniors Cameron Ward (Bound Brook, N.J.) and Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) combined for 39 of Stonehill's 56 points on the night, while the remainder of the Skyhawks combined for six field goals, shooting 23.1-percent, and 17 points. Ward scored a career-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 2-for-3 from three-point range, converting 4-of-5 free-throws, with a team-high eight rebounds and career-best three-blocked shots. Thornton scored in double-figures for the fourth-straight game with 19 points and three assists. Junior Sharn Hayward (Penguin, Tasmania) chipped in with a trio of three-pointers for nine points with four assists and three boards.

Against the Dolphins
This afternoon marks the 39th meeting all-time between these two former Northeast-10 Conference rivals, meeting for the second time in their respective NCAA Division I eras. Stonehill holds a 27-11 advantage in the all-time series which dates back to the 1996-97 season when Le Moyne moved from the former New England Collegiate Conference to the NE10, but the Dolphins pulled away for a 72-51 triumph in their first Division I matchup in Syracuse, N.Y., just eight days ago. While Le Moyne has won the last two meetings between the two overall, the Skyhawks have won four-straight over the Dolphins here at Merkert Gym and are 18-1 against today's guests at home overall. Le Moyne makes its first trip to Easton since Stonehill notched a 55-53 triumph in the semifinal round of the 2020 NE10 Tournament. Stonehill head coach Trisha Brown is 20-7 over her career against the Dolphins, while Le Moyne head coach Mary Grimes has won both of her encounters with the Skyhawks.

Last Time They Met
Le Moyne overcame an early deficit and pulled away in the second half to secure a 72-51 victory over Stonehill in NEC action on Ted Grant Court last Friday. Fifth-year Lytoya Baker posted a double-double, while postgrad Sydney Lusher also scored a team-high 15 points to lead four Le Moyne players in double-figures in the win. Baker totaled 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds (six offensive) with three assists, two steals and a blocked shot for the Dolphins, while Lusher connected on a trio of three-pointers on her way to 15 points, adding four rebounds, four assists and five steals. Seniors Jada Thornton and Cameron Ward combined for 31 of Stonehill's 51 points in the contest. Thornton posted her second career double-double with a game-high 17 points and career-best 12 rebounds, adding three assists, while Ward finished with 14 points, converting 6-of-7 free-throws, with four rebounds and two assists. The duo combined to shoot 12-of-29 (41.4-percent) from the floor, while the remainder of the Skyhawks finished 7-for-24 (29.2%).

Prime Performer
Stonehill senior Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) has been named a Northeast Conference Prime Performer for the second-straight week and team-leading third time this season overall by the Conference on Monday. Thornton posted her second career double-double (both this season) in the Skyhawks lone game of the week at Le Moyne last Friday with a game-high 17 points and career-best 12 rebounds, adding three assists. Her double-double is the fourth of the season for Stonehill and matches the team-high of two along with classmate Cameron Ward (Bound Brook, N.J.), as the duo each registered the first two double-doubles of the season against Merrimack on January 21. Thornton and postgraduate transfer Lauren Sampson (Waltham, Mass.) have both earned Prime Performer honors multiple times, with Sampson earning the honors twice, while junior Sharn Hayward (Penguin, Tasmania) garnered the recognition once to give the Skyhawks weekly honorees for six-straight weeks.

30 for 44
Stonehill junior forward Maureen Stapleton (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) is projected to make her team-leading 30th career start this afternoon. She is one of four Skyhawks to surpass 20 career starts this season, along with classmate Sharn Hayward (Penguin, Tasmania) and seniors Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) and Cameron Ward (Bound Brook, N.J.). Stapleton's 30th career start would come in her 78th career game played.

Magic of the Merk
Stonehill is 71-13 at Merkert Gymnasium all-time against the current members of the Northeast Conference with its 3-2 start to its NEC home slate this season. Sacred Heart owns three of those 13 Skyhawk setbacks after 80-53 win last week.

Right There
15 of Stonehill's 27 NEC games over its first two years in the Conference have been decided by eight points or less, including five of its eight Conference wins.

Rise Up!
Senior guard Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) carries a team-leading four-game string of double-figure scoring games into today's matchup with Le Moyne after netting 19 at Merrimack Thursday night. She is averaging 18.8 points per game during this stretch on 41.9-percent shooting (31-for-71), with 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 35.7-minutes per game. Thornton has moved up to ninth among NEC scoring leaders, while ranking eighth among Conference scoring leaders in NEC play at 13.5 points per game. She leads the Skyhawks with 14 double-figure scoring games this season (17 career), while leading the team in scoring a team-high ten games this year (13 career).

Block Game
Stonehill posted a season-high nine blocked shots in Thursday's matchup at Merrimack, led by career-highs by senior Cameron Ward (Bound Brook, N.J.) and junior Maureen Stapleton (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) with three blocks apiece. Freshman guard Chayil Mauristhene (Milton, Mass.) chipped in with a season-high two blocks as well.

20-20 Vision
Senior forward Cameron Ward's (Bound Brook, N.J.) career-high 20 points at Merrimack on Thursday night marked the first 20-point game of her career, and she is the fourth Stonehill player to produce a 20-point outing since moving to NEC play this season. Junior Sharn Hayward's (Penguin, Tasmania) career-high 33 points on a school and NEC record 11 three-pointers against Wagner (1/15) started the Skyhawks 20-plus point run, while senior Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) joined the 20-point club with her career-high 20 point total at Wagner (2/3), and postgrad Lauren Sampson (Waltham, Mass.) netted a career-high 23 in the Skyhawks win over Saint Francis (1/25).

Playing Like Seniors
Stonehill seniors Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) and Cameron Ward (Bound Brook, N.J.) have combined to score 63.6-percent of the Skyhawks points over the last three games, after combining for 39 of their 56 points at Merrimack Thursday night. Thornton is averaging 18.7 points, while Ward is contributing 15.7 points on 43.8% shooting, including 4-for-7 (57.1%) from three-point range, over the last three with Stonehill scoring 54.0 points per game.

Preseason Prognostications
Stonehill has been picked to finish fifth in its second trip around the Northeast Conference by the league's head coaches in its preseason poll announced at the Conference's Social Media Day at the Prudential Center in Newark in October. Defending NEC Tournament Champions Sacred Heart University is the unanimous choice to capture the regular season title with all nine first place votes, followed by No. 2 Merrimack, No. 3 Wagner, defending regular season champions FDU at No. 4 and Stonehill. LIU follows the Skyhawks at No. 6, with Saint Francis No. 7, NEC newcomer Le Moyne No. 8 and No. 9 Central Connecticut State.

Tourney Time
Stonehill, winners of six Northeast-10 Conference Championship prior to elevating its program to NCAA Division I status in 2022, will have the opportunity to compete for a Northeast Conference title for the first time this season after the NEC presidents voted to waive the two-year waiting period in automatic qualifier sports at their June meetings. The Skyhawks remain NCAA Tournament ineligible until the 2026-27 season.

Celebrating 75 Years
Stonehill College, founded in 1948 is celebrating its 75th Anniversary during the 2023-24 academic year. In September 1948, some 134 students — many of whom were veterans from World War II — gathered with the eight teachers who would serve as their faculty to celebrate Mass at the Chapel in Donahue Hall. That small gathering of students and teachers marked the beginning of Stonehill College. The College kicked off its 75th Anniversary Celebration with a Jubilee Mass during Family Weekend in September, followed by music, games, food trucks and beer garden.
