The Game
Stonehill College opens its first of two season-long three game homestands this afternoon as it hosts Utah Tech University, a fellow transitioning NCAA Division I program for a Thanksgiving Weekend non-conference matchup on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium this afternoon. The Skyhawks return home in search of their first win following a two-game trek to Western New York last weekend, capped by a 71-69 setback at Niagara University on Sunday. The Trailblazers make the trek East for a pair of Thanksgiving Weekend contests, defeating New Hampshire, 56-46, in Durham, N.H., on Wednesday afternoon.

Media Information
This afternoon's game will be broadcast live via SkyhawksVision on NEC Front Row. Charlie Bergeron (PBP) has the call of the action for the 25th-straight year and is joined today by longtime analyst Brian Buckley (analyst), under the direction of Matt Nelson. The broadcast can be accessed via stonehillskyhawks.com through its NEC Front Row portal (necfrontrow.com/schools/SC) or through Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku via the NEC On the Run App.

Giving Tuesday
The Stonehill College Athletics Department seeks to pursue excellence in the form of academic and competitive success, community engagement, and whole-person development. The generous support of donors plays a vital role in the achievement of these goals. Student-athletes make up roughly 20% of the undergraduate student body, and central to their experience is the formation of the whole person. It is our intent to develop our student-athletes into transformational leaders for life. So much of our success is directly related to the support of our steadfast community of alumni, parents and friends—who believe a strong athletic program, paired with Stonehill's tradition of academic excellence, only serves to augment the College's rank and reputation. The College seeks to continue this support this coming #GivingTuesday, November 28, through the #GoHill Fund at stonehill.edu/givingtuesday.

Last Time Out
Niagara placed four in double-figures to slip past Stonehill for a 72-69 decision at Gallagher Center. Freshman Kylie Buckley came off the bench to sink 7-of-10 shots from the floor to lead Niagara's four in double-figures with 15 points, while adding five rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal in 19 minutes. Sophomore Amelia Strong added 13 points, aided by 7-for-10 shooting from the free-throw line with five rebounds (four offensive) and two steals. Junior Sharn Hayward (Penguin, Tasmania) netted a career-high for the second-straight game with a game-high 18 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point distance, four rebounds and two assists. Sophomore Paige Martin (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) contributed a career-high 12 points, with seven rebounds, while senior Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) reached double-figures for the fifth time in six games with 14 points, four boards and two assists.

Against the Trailblazers
This afternoon marks the first meeting all-time between Stonehill and Utah Tech, formerly Dixie State University, a pair of institutions in transition to NCAA Division I. The Trailblazers are scheduled to become full NCAA I members next year, while the Skyhawks are scheduled for full membership in 2026-27. Utah Tech is also Stonehill's first ever opponent from the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

Brown/Stonehill Utah Tech Tie
Former Stonehill assistant coach Johnna Brown, niece of head coach Trisha Brown, was a two-sport student-athlete at Utah Tech, during its Dixie State time in NCAA Division II. The 2013 graduate started 73 of 76 games over three years at Dixie State where the 2010 PacWest Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Conference performer scored 1,212 points, with 726 rebounds, 232 assists and 148 steals, earning All-Region and holding school-records for points and steals, while ranking second all-time in rebounds and assists. She was also an All-Conference and All-Region shortstop on the softball diamond at DSU, hitting .410 over 153 career games, with 188 hits, 26 home runs, 34 doubles, six triples, 145 RBI and two All-Conference awards. Johnna, whose sister Shannon Brown '16 played four years at Stonehill, was an assistant for her aunt for two years from 2016-18, helping the Skyhawks to a 41-18 record, including a 29-4 record and NCAA East Region title in 2018 to reach the Division II Elite Eight after winning the NE10 regular season title with a 20-1 mark.

Great Day for a Game
Stonehill has won its last four games contested on November 25 - the last coming with a 66-47 win at LIU Post on November 25, 2018. The Skyhawks last defeat was a 75-73 setback to UMass Lowell here at Merkert Gym in 2008.

Home Cookin'
Stonehill opens its first of two season-high three game homestands this afternoon that will also see Holy Cross (Wednesday) and New Hampshire (Dec. 6) visit Merkert Gym. The Skyhawks will also host three-straight in Easton in Northeast Conference play in late January/early February when Merrimack (Jan. 21), Saint Francis (Jan. 25) and Sacred Heart (Feb. 1) come to town.

Taking Care of Business
Stonehill has won 17 of its last 24 home games against non-conference opposition after opening the 2023-24 season with three of its first four at home and finishing that portion of its inaugural NCAA Division I season with a 2-3 record at Merkert Gym. The Skyhawks have posted a 25-8 record against non-conference opposition at Merkert Gym dating back to 2005.

She Comes From the Land Down Under
Junior guard Sharn Hayward (Penguin, Tasmania) matched or exceeded her career-best in scoring in each of Stonehill's games in Western New York last week. She matched her previous best with 16 points at Buffalo on Friday and then netted a career-best 18 points at Niagara on Sunday. She drained four three-pointers on Sunday, marking the second-highest single-game total in the NEC this year.

Mo on the Double
Junior forward Maureen Stapleton (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) has pulled down double-digit rebounds in back-to-back games, including a career-high 14 rebounds at Niagara on Sunday. She has taken over the NEC rebounding lead with 8.3 rebounds per game this season, having led Stonehill in rebounding in five of its six games. Her 14 boards at Niagara are tops in the NEC this season and she leads the Conference in double-figure rebound games with two. Her 6.5 defensive rebounds per game is also tops in the Conference.

Double-Figures
Stonehill senior forward Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) has scored in double-figures in five of the Skyhwks six games this season - more than doubling her career total entering the season (3). She is ranked seventh in the NEC with her team-high 11.5 points per game, while ranking third in field goal percentage (.333).

Preseason Prognostications
Stonehill has been picked to finish fifth in its second trip around the Northeast Conference by the league's head coaches in its preseason poll announced at the Conference's Social Media Day at the Prudential Center in Newark in October. Defending NEC Tournament Champions Sacred Heart University is the unanimous choice to capture the regular season title with all nine first place votes, followed by No. 2 Merrimack, No. 3 Wagner, defending regular season champions FDU at No. 4 and Stonehill. LIU follows the Skyhawks at No. 6, with Saint Francis No. 7, NEC newcomer Le Moyne No. 8 and No. 9 Central Connecticut State.

Tough Slate
Stonehill has again assembled a strong non-conference test to lead into its second Northeast Conference season. The Skyhawks will face their first ACC opponent in Boston College in Chestnut Hill on December 12 (11 AM) to go along with opponents from the Big East (1 - DePaul), Atlantic-10 (1 - George Washington), CAA (1 - Northeastern), MAC (1 - Buffalo), WAC (1 - Utah Tech), America East (3 - Bryant, New Hampshire, UAlbany), MAAC (2 - Niagara, Fairfield) and Patriot League (2 - Lehigh, Holy Cross). Of this year's 13 game non-conference schedule, eight are repeat opponents from the Skyhawks inaugural Division I season, starting with tonight's return visit to Merkert by Northeastern and including: Lehigh (Nov. 11), Bryant (Nov. 14), Buffalo (Nov. 17), Holy Cross (Nov. 29), New Hampshire (Dec. 6), UAlbany (Dec. 16) and Fairfield (Dec. 30) - with six of those eight here at home.

Inside the Roster
Stonehill head coach Trisha Brown returns five letterwinners, including just one starter and no regular starters, from its inaugural NCAA Division I season in 2022-23.
Stonehill's roster includes:
• Three Division I transfers, including two postgraduate transfers in Anna Boruta (Vienna, Austra) from Northeastern and Lauren Sampson (Waltham, Mass.) from Providence, as well as sophomore Paige Martin (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) from St. Francis-Brooklyn.
• Three players who combined to start 16 games last season, including senior Cameron Ward (Bound Brook, N.J.), who started ten of 14 games before being sidelined by injury.
• A program-record three international student-athletes.
• Two postgrads, two seniors, two juniors, two sophomores and six freshmen.

Tourney Time
Stonehill, winners of six Northeast-10 Conference Championship prior to elevating its program to NCAA Division I status in 2022, will have the opportunity to compete for a Northeast Conference title for the first time this season after the NEC presidents voted to waive the two-year waiting period in automatic qualifier sports at their June meetings. The Skyhawks remain NCAA Tournament ineligible until the 2026-27 season.

Celebrating 75 Years
Stonehill College, founded in 1948 is celebrating its 75th Anniversary during the 2023-24 academic year. In September 1948, some 134 students — many of whom were veterans from World War II — gathered with the eight teachers who would serve as their faculty to celebrate Mass at the Chapel in Donahue Hall. That small gathering of students and teachers marked the beginning of Stonehill College. The College kicked off its 75th Anniversary Celebration with a Jubilee Mass during Family Weekend in September, followed by music, games, food trucks and beer garden.
