Last Time Out
Boston College posted its fourth-straight win with a 101-37 victory over Stonehill at Silvio O. Conte Forum. Senior Dontavia Waggoner led four Boston College players in double-figures with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting, three rebounds, an assist and steal. Junior Andrea Daley added 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting, four rebounds and two steals, while sophomore T'yana Todd scored ten of her 14 points in the first half as she made all four of her shots from the floor over the first 20-minutes, finishing 5-for-6 shooting, with two rebounds and three steals. Freshman Lili Krasovec chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals off the bench, while sophomore Teya Sidberry pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and junior Kaylah Ivey dished out ten assists. Freshman Brooke Paquette (Hudson, N.H.) scored seven of her team-high eight points in the first half while making her first career start for Stonehill, draining a pair of three-pointers. Junior Sharn Hayward (Penguin, Tasmania) added seven points for the Skyhawks, while senior Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) chipped in six points and two rebounds. Boston College led start to finish, building a 24-point halftime lead (44-20) by making 9-of-16 (56.3-percent) shots in each of the first two quarters and pulled away from there.

Against the Great Danes
Tonight marks the second meeting all-time between these two programs - the first here in the New York State Capital. UAlbany holds a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series after edging Stonehill 47-46 in Easton, Massachusetts, last December. Stonehill head coach Trisha Brown is 0-1 in her career against the Great Danes, while UAlbany head coach Colleen Mullen is 1-0 all-time against the Skyhawks.

Last Time They Met
UAlbany limited Stonehill to just two points over the final four minutes while erasing a five-point deficit and pull out a 47-46 decision at Merkert Gymnasium last December. Grace Heeps' lone basket of the night, a three-pointer, with 1:10 on the clock gave UAlbany the lead (46-44) capping the rally from the five point Stonehill fourth quarter lead. She also contributed a game-high matching nine rebounds for the Great Danes. Helene Haegerstrand was the lone UAlbany player in double-figures, and one of just two in the game overall, with 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots. Emily Bramanti paced Stonehill with a game-high 15 points, three rebounds and two assists. Neither team led by more than six points in the contest that featured six ties and 15 lead changes, with UAlbany holding the lead for only 14:36 all night and never by more than three points, compared to 21:42 in front for Stonehill.

Back to the Capital
While Stonehill is playing UAlbany in the New York State Capital for the first time, Stonehill has history in the area, having posted a 24-16 record in 30 all-time meetings with Saint Rose, including 10 postseason matchups all-time with the Golden Knights. The Skyhawks last trip to Albany came on February 1, 2020, posting an 86-41 victory at Saint Rose behind 29 points, eight rebounds and three assists from Kayla Raymond, '22, with Emily Bramanti, '23 chipping in ten points (3-for-4 threes) and six assists. Stonehill has won its last four games in Albany, all over Saint Rose, dating back to January 2012. Stonehill has even played NCAA Tournament games, hosted by Saint Rose, at nearby Siena College in the late 1990s.

More Connections Than The Phone Company
The UAlbany coaching staff has three direct connections to Stonehill and head coach Trisha Brown and a fourth with a less than direct connection. Headlining this group are two former Stonehill women's basketball standouts Meg Methven, '10 and Emily Bramanti, '23, along with former Skyhawks assistant coach Catherine Cassidy, and former Le Moyne head coach Gina Castelli who posted a 3-7 record as head coach against Brown and the Skyhawks between 2013-21, including three NE10 Tournament encounters (0-3).
• Methven, an NE10 All-Rookie Team selection in 2006-07, scored 1,112 points (28th all-time) in 120 career games (10th) for Brown, leaving as the program's all-time leader in three-point field goals with 249 (currently 2nd). She also served three seasons as an assistant coach with Brown from 2013-16, helping the Skyhawks to a 25-5 mark in 2014-15 and a regional finals appearance after four NCAA Tournament appearances and an NE10 Championship as a student-athlete.
• Bramanti, a two-time All-Conference selection, including first team All-NEC honors last year, scored 1,084 points (31st) in 109 career games, connecting on 156 threes (8th). Selected to the WBCA's "So You Want to Be a Coach" Program in 2023, Bramanti helped the Skyhawks to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2020 NE10 Championship as a student-athlete.
• Cassidy was an assistant on Brown's coaching staff for three seasons from 2015-18, helping the Skyhawks win their third NCAA Regional Championship in 2018 to reach the Division II Elite Eight for the third time in program history with a 29-4 mark.

America East Familiarity
This afternoon marks Stonehill's seventh game against an America East member over its first two seasons at the NCAA Division I level (having played a number of preseason exhibitions prior to taking the leap as well) - the most of any Conference over two years. Stonehill, which seeks its first win against an America East foe this season (losses vs. Bryant & New Hampshire), split its four matchups with the Conference in its inaugural Division I season in 2022-23. Stonehill posted its first Division I road win with a 57-50 victory at UNH on December 3, 2022, following that up with an 81-74 win at Bryant eight days later.

Lights, Camera, Action!
Both Stonehill women's basketball matchups with Saint Francis have been selected by the Northeast Conference to appear in the Conference's 2023-24 basketball broadcast schedule the league announced on Thursday. Stonehill will host Saint Francis at Merkert Gym for an NEC matchup on Thursday, January 25, at 6 p.m., in a game that will now be broadcast live on ESPN+, as well as the Skyhawks return NEC matchup with the Red Flash in Loretto, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, February 24, at 4 p.m. It marks the first time in the Skyhawks two-year history with the NEC that it will have two games included in the Conference's ESPN+ package and the second-straight year it will host a game in the broadcast package after hosting Merrimack College in an ESPN+ clash at Merkert Gymnasium last February. The two Stonehill/Saint Francis matchups are among 12 women's games included in the NEC 25-game basketball broadcasting package for the 2023-24 season – 23 of which will be broadcast on ESPN platforms. The two games add to five Stonehill women's games scheduled for ESPN digital platforms this season, including Tuesday's matchup at Boston College carried on ACC Network Extra, as well as today's game at UAlbany and this coming Thursday at George Washington on ESPN+.

Giving Back for the Holidays
Stonehill took a break from the court and preparing for the College's upcoming final exam period to give back to the community on Saturday, December 9, by volunteering the the "Santa's Workshop" at My Brother's Keeper in Easton, located just off the edge of campus.  Since 1990, My Brother's Keeper has brought joy to kids and removed stress from parents who could not provide presents for their children at Christmas. My Brother's Keeper delivers personally-selected gifts to over 3,000 families living from the North Shore to Fall River and Cape Cod. Many Christmas assistance programs only serve children under age 13, but in keeping with our mission, My Brother's Keeper serves the whole family – children, teens, and parents too.

Fresh Start
Stonehill freshman Brooke Paquette (Hudson, N.H.) made her first collegiate start at Boston College on Tuesday, leading Skyhawk scorers with eight points. Paquette has posted a pair of double-figure scoring games and led Stonehill in scoring twice through the first ten games of her collegiate career. Tuesday marked just the second starting lineup used by head coach Trisha Brown this season.

Wait a Minute!
Stonehill has just one player on its current roster that is averaging more than 20-minutes per game over their collegiate career - freshman Brooke Paquette (Hudson, N.H.), who is averaging 20.4 minutes per game in a very abbreviated sample size of ten games. Senior Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) is next on the team, averaging 17.7 minutes over 63 career games played (13 starts), while junior Maureen Stapleton (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) having averaged 17.0 minutes in 63 games (15 starts).

Eight Away
Stonehill head coach Trisha Brown will coach her 628th career game today against UAlbany. She will match Paula Sullivan (636 career games) for most games coached in the program's history against Merrimack at Merkert Gym on January 21, then break the program mark four days later against Saint Francis on January 25 in a game that will be broadcast on ESPN+ through the NEC's television broadcast package.

Mo Boards
Junior forward Maureen Stapleton (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) leads the NEC with 7.7 rebounds per game, including a Conference-high 5.9 defensive boards per game, having led Stonehill in rebounding in nine if its ten games. She pulled down double-digit rebounds in back-to-back games, including a career-high 14 rebounds at Niagara - tied for tops in the NEC this season.

Preseason Prognostications
Stonehill has been picked to finish fifth in its second trip around the Northeast Conference by the league's head coaches in its preseason poll announced at the Conference's Social Media Day at the Prudential Center in Newark in October. Defending NEC Tournament Champions Sacred Heart University is the unanimous choice to capture the regular season title with all nine first place votes, followed by No. 2 Merrimack, No. 3 Wagner, defending regular season champions FDU at No. 4 and Stonehill. LIU follows the Skyhawks at No. 6, with Saint Francis No. 7, NEC newcomer Le Moyne No. 8 and No. 9 Central Connecticut State.

Tough Slate
Stonehill has again assembled a strong non-conference test to lead into its second Northeast Conference season. The Skyhawks will face their first ACC opponent in Boston College in Chestnut Hill on December 12 (11 AM) to go along with opponents from the Big East (1 - DePaul), Atlantic-10 (1 - George Washington), CAA (1 - Northeastern), MAC (1 - Buffalo), WAC (1 - Utah Tech), America East (3 - Bryant, New Hampshire, UAlbany), MAAC (2 - Niagara, Fairfield) and Patriot League (2 - Lehigh, Holy Cross). Of this year's 13 game non-conference schedule, eight are repeat opponents from the Skyhawks inaugural Division I season, starting with tonight's return visit to Merkert by Northeastern and including: Lehigh (Nov. 11), Bryant (Nov. 14), Buffalo (Nov. 17), Holy Cross (Nov. 29), New Hampshire (Dec. 6), UAlbany (Dec. 16) and Fairfield (Dec. 30) - with six of those eight here at home.

Inside the Roster
Stonehill head coach Trisha Brown returns five letterwinners, including just one starter and no regular starters, from its inaugural NCAA Division I season in 2022-23.
Stonehill's roster includes:
• Three Division I transfers, including two postgraduate transfers in Anna Boruta (Vienna, Austra) from Northeastern and Lauren Sampson (Waltham, Mass.) from Providence, as well as sophomore Paige Martin (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) from St. Francis-Brooklyn.
• Three players who combined to start 16 games last season, including senior Cameron Ward (Bound Brook, N.J.), who started ten of 14 games before being sidelined by injury.
• A program-record three international student-athletes.
• Two postgrads, two seniors, two juniors, two sophomores and six freshmen.

Tourney Time
Stonehill, winners of six Northeast-10 Conference Championship prior to elevating its program to NCAA Division I status in 2022, will have the opportunity to compete for a Northeast Conference title for the first time this season after the NEC presidents voted to waive the two-year waiting period in automatic qualifier sports at their June meetings. The Skyhawks remain NCAA Tournament ineligible until the 2026-27 season.

Celebrating 75 Years
Stonehill College, founded in 1948 is celebrating its 75th Anniversary during the 2023-24 academic year. In September 1948, some 134 students — many of whom were veterans from World War II — gathered with the eight teachers who would serve as their faculty to celebrate Mass at the Chapel in Donahue Hall. That small gathering of students and teachers marked the beginning of Stonehill College. The College kicked off its 75th Anniversary Celebration with a Jubilee Mass during Family Weekend in September, followed by music, games, food trucks and beer garden.
