The Game
Stonehill College continues a season-high matching three-game homestand as it welcomes College of the Holy Cross to Easton for the first time in 43-years for its Mental Health Awareness Game, sponsored by the Stonehill chapter of Hope Happens Here, and a non-conference matchup on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium tonight. The Skyhawks are in search of their first win of the season as they look to break the longest skein to open a season in program history after Saturday's 81-58 setback to Utah Tech here at Merkert Gym. The Crusaders have been idle for a week after dropping their second-straight with a 63-53 decision at Villanova University last Tuesday, November 21.

Mental Health Awareness Game
Stonehill women's basketball is hosting tonight's Mental Health Awareness Game, sponsored by the College's chapter of Hope Happens Here. Hope Happens Here is a student-athlete run organization that aims to break the negative stigma associated with mental health issues. It strives to spread awareness and 'start the conversation' on mental health issues and create positive change when addressing these issues. This idea was launched through the Saint Michael's College Athletic Department and the College's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in September of 2015. The intent is to work with student-athletes to help destigmatize mental health issues that are prominent in athletics, due to the expected "toughness" each student-athlete feels the need to show to not let their teammates down. Hope Happens Here works directly with Athletic Departments and campus Counseling Services, amongst others, to set student-athletes up with proper services they need to assure they are excelling at their full potential in the classroom and on the playing field. The main intent of HHH is to promote awareness through education and "starting the conversation". While it takes a lot of pride in our fundraising efforts, we believe the most crucial step to take in breaking the stigma that surrounds mental health is educating our peers with statistics and helpful tips in dealing with their own mental health or the mental health of others. We stress that we are not therapy, nor do we have the qualifications to be therapists, and instead act as mediators in connecting people with proper resources and promoting healthy ways of life. Hope Happens Here has spread to multiple college campuses across the east, and Stonehill is one of 15 college's and universities to host a chapter on campus, along with 14 high schools.

Last Time Out
Utah Tech jumped out to a ten-point first quarter lead behind 64.7-percent shooting and never looked back in posting an 81-58 victory over Stonehill at Merkert Gymnasium. Fifth-year guard Maggie McCord led four Utah State players in double-figures with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 6-for-9 from three-point distance, while freshman Calyn Dallas added 16 points in 22 minutes off the bench, connecting on 4-of-8 three-pointers. Against the Crusaders
Tonight marks the sixth meeting all-time between these two programs in a series that dates back to the 1974-75 season. The Crusaders made over 76-percent of its shots in the fourth quarter to pull out the win as Bronagh Power-Cassidy scored 11 of her game-high 17 points in the second half, including nine in the decisive fourth quarter alone to lead five from Holy Cross in double-figures. Maddie Loder led three from Stonehill in double-figures with 16 points, including ten in the first half, with four assists. The Crusaders make their first trip to Easton in 43 years tonight and Stonehill is 2-0 all-time against Holy Cross here at Merkert Gymnasium, rolling to a 69-32 victory the last time they played in Easton in 1980. Stonehill head coach Trisha Brown is 0-1 in her career against the Crusaders as a head coach, while Holy Cross head coach Maureen Magarity is 1-0 against the Skyhawks.

Home Cookin'
Stonehill continues its first of two season-high three game homestands tonight that started with Saturday's setback to Utah Tech and will conclude against New Hampshire next Wednesday at Merkert Gym. The Skyhawks will also host three-straight in Easton in Northeast Conference play in late January/early February when Merrimack (Jan. 21), Saint Francis (Jan. 25) and Sacred Heart (Feb. 1) come to town.

There are Seven Days in a Week
Tonight's game will mark the seventh day of the week Stonehill will have played a game on this year - completing the full week in just eight games. The Skyhawks matchup with Utah Tech was their second Saturday game of the season, with the other six days having one game each after tonight's Wednesday game.

Taking Care of Business
Despite losses in its first four non-conference home games this year, Stonehill has won 17 of its last 25 home games against non-conference opposition. The Skyhawks have posted a 25-9 record against non-conference opposition at Merkert Gym dating back to 2005.

Double-Figures
Stonehill senior forward Jada Thornton (Germantown, Md.) has scored in double-figures in six of the Skyhawks seven games this season - tripling her career total entering the season (3). She is ranked seventh in the NEC with her team-high 11.6 points per game, while ranking sixth in field goal percentage (.325).

Mo on the Double
Junior forward Maureen Stapleton (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) pulled down double-digit rebounds in back-to-back games, including a career-high 14 rebounds at Niagara. She leads the NEC rebounding lead with 8.3 rebounds per game this season, having led Stonehill in rebounding in six of its seven games. Her 14 boards at Niagara are tops in the NEC this season and she leads the Conference in double-figure rebound games with two. Her 6.6 defensive rebounds per game is also tops in the Conference.

She Can Dish it Too
Stonehill junior forward Maureen Stapleton (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) handed out a career-high seven assists at Niagara - tied for third-highest in the NEC this season. Her 2.3 assists per game is tops on the team and ranks ninth among NEC leaders.

She Comes From the Land Down Under
Junior guard Sharn Hayward (Penguin, Tasmania) matched or exceeded her career-best in scoring in each of Stonehill's games in Western New York. She matched her previous best with 16 points at Buffalo and then netted a career-best 18 points at Niagara. She drained four three-pointers against the Purple Eagles, marking the second-highest single-game total in the NEC this year.

Preseason Prognostications
Stonehill has been picked to finish fifth in its second trip around the Northeast Conference by the league's head coaches in its preseason poll announced at the Conference's Social Media Day at the Prudential Center in Newark in October. Defending NEC Tournament Champions Sacred Heart University is the unanimous choice to capture the regular season title with all nine first place votes, followed by No. 2 Merrimack, No. 3 Wagner, defending regular season champions FDU at No. 4 and Stonehill. LIU follows the Skyhawks at No. 6, with Saint Francis No. 7, NEC newcomer Le Moyne No. 8 and No. 9 Central Connecticut State.

Tough Slate
Stonehill has again assembled a strong non-conference test to lead into its second Northeast Conference season. The Skyhawks will face their first ACC opponent in Boston College in Chestnut Hill on December 12 (11 AM) to go along with opponents from the Big East (1 - DePaul), Atlantic-10 (1 - George Washington), CAA (1 - Northeastern), MAC (1 - Buffalo), WAC (1 - Utah Tech), America East (3 - Bryant, New Hampshire, UAlbany), MAAC (2 - Niagara, Fairfield) and Patriot League (2 - Lehigh, Holy Cross). Of this year's 13 game non-conference schedule, eight are repeat opponents from the Skyhawks inaugural Division I season, starting with tonight's return visit to Merkert by Northeastern and including: Lehigh (Nov. 11), Bryant (Nov. 14), Buffalo (Nov. 17), Holy Cross (Nov. 29), New Hampshire (Dec. 6), UAlbany (Dec. 16) and Fairfield (Dec. 30) - with six of those eight here at home.

Inside the Roster
Stonehill head coach Trisha Brown returns five letterwinners, including just one starter and no regular starters, from its inaugural NCAA Division I season in 2022-23.
Stonehill's roster includes:
• Three Division I transfers, including two postgraduate transfers in Anna Boruta (Vienna, Austra) from Northeastern and Lauren Sampson (Waltham, Mass.) from Providence, as well as sophomore Paige Martin (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) from St. Francis-Brooklyn.
• Three players who combined to start 16 games last season, including senior Cameron Ward (Bound Brook, N.J.), who started ten of 14 games before being sidelined by injury.
• A program-record three international student-athletes.
• Two postgrads, two seniors, two juniors, two sophomores and six freshmen.

Tourney Time
Stonehill, winners of six Northeast-10 Conference Championship prior to elevating its program to NCAA Division I status in 2022, will have the opportunity to compete for a Northeast Conference title for the first time this season after the NEC presidents voted to waive the two-year waiting period in automatic qualifier sports at their June meetings. The Skyhawks remain NCAA Tournament ineligible until the 2026-27 season.

Celebrating 75 Years
Stonehill College, founded in 1948 is celebrating its 75th Anniversary during the 2023-24 academic year. In September 1948, some 134 students — many of whom were veterans from World War II — gathered with the eight teachers who would serve as their faculty to celebrate Mass at the Chapel in Donahue Hall. That small gathering of students and teachers marked the beginning of Stonehill College. The College kicked off its 75th Anniversary Celebration with a Jubilee Mass during Family Weekend in September, followed by music, games, food trucks and beer garden.
