LUBLIN, Poland (September 26, 2023) – Stonehill College postgraduate transfer guard Anna Boruta is ready to represent her country at the 2023 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Under-23 World Cup that hosted in Poland on Wednesday, September 27, and run through October 1.

Boruta, a Stonehill postgraduate transfer from Northeastern University, will represent her home nation of Austria, along with Nina Krisper, Stella Popp and Magdalena Schmidt at the event that opens with pool play on Wednesday. Boruta and her Austrian teammates are in Pool A along with China, The Netherlands, Kenya and a United States team that features Zia Cooke, from the University of South Carolina, Anquira DeCosta from Baylor University, Dyaisha Fair of Syracuse University and Dazia Lawrence of the University of Charlotte.

Austria will open the World Cup with two games on Wednesday, starting with a matchup against USA tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. (EST), followed by The Netherlands at 11:45 a.m. (EST). Boruta and her teammates will conclude pool play on Friday against Kenya at 9:55 a.m. (EST), and then China at 11:45 a.m. (EST). The U23 3x3 medal round will be held on Sunday, October 1, with the quarterfinal, semifinal, bronze and gold medal games all played on the same day.

Poland is serving as host of the fourth edition of the U23 3x3 World Cup, featuring 20 men's and 20 women's team all competing in the historic city of Lublin. France are the defending champions, having defeated the United States at the 2022 event final. The largest urban team sport in the world, 3x3 basketball is played three-a-side with one backboard and a half-court setup. The sport was commissioned by the International Olympic Committee and made its Olympic debut at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

Boruta appeared in 41 games over three seasons at Northeastern prior to transferring to Stonehill for the 2023-24 season. She posted a career-high 11 points in a win over Hampton University last February with five assists in 19 minutes of play. Boruta was named to the Coastal Athletic Conference (CAA) Commissioner's Honor Roll each semester. She is a veteran of the Austrian youth national team that competed for five seasons with WAT 3 Capricorns, earning team MVP honors twice and was a three-time Austrian champion at the U16 and U19 levels, and played two years with BK Dutchess Klosterneuburg, winning the 2019 cup title.

Stonehill opens its 2023-24 season against Boruta's former teammates, Northeastern, at Merkert Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
