NE10 Announces Institutional Nominees for Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year

EASTON, Mass. (May 20, 2020) – Stonehill College's senior student-athletes who have recently been named its Edward E. Martin Senior Scholar-Athlete Award recipients have both been named among the nominees for the Northeast-10 Conference's Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, the league announced today.

Volleyball graduate Rachel Dunlavy and men's basketball senior All-American Will Moreton are among the 14 women and 14 men nominated across the Northeast-10's 14 member institutions. The NE10 Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year will be announced on Wednesday, May 27. Stonehill has had one previous NE10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, with men's cross country and track & field student-athlete John Monahan, '00 receiving the very first Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year following the 1999-2000 academic year.

Dunlavy, who graduated with a 3.98 cumulative grade point average in December having earned her Bachelor's Degree in economics from Stonehill, was named the College's Edward E. Martin Female Senior Scholar-Athlete Award recipient last week. The four-year letterwinner for the Stonehill volleyball team, serving as team captain as a junior and senior, received the NE10's Elite 24 Award for having the highest cumulative GPA at the 2019 NE10 Volleyball Championships, and is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District I first team and NE10 Academic All-Conference selection. Dunlavy has earned the Fred C. Petti Female Scholar-Athlete Award for having the highest GPA among all female student-athletes at Stonehill three times, received the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award twice, and the St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, medal for having the highest GPA on the team two years. She has been inducted to Omicron Delta Epsilon and Lambda Epsilon Sigma honor societies, and earned NE10 Academic Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll status all seven semesters, with a perfect 4.0 semester GPA six of her seven semesters.

Dunlavy appeared in 98 matches over her career, and the two-time NE10 Libero of the Week finished her career ranked seventh in program history with her 1,181 career digs, with her 447 digs in 2019 ranking fifth on the program's single-season list. She ranked seventh in the NE10 with her 4.52 digs per set last fall and fifth in the NE10 with her 4.25 digs per set in 2018. Dunlavy totaled 12 20-plus dig games and two 30-plus dig games over her career, posting a career-high 31 digs against Adelphi University on November 2, 2019. She has also been announced as a nominee for the NE10's Woman of the Year award.

Moreton, who has recorded a 3.48 cumulative grade point average as a finance major at Stonehill, received the College's Edward E. Martin Male Senior Scholar-Athlete Award last week. The four-year starter on the Stonehill men's basketball program started all 114 games of his collegiate career, helping lead the Skyhawks to their 15th NCAA Tournament bid this winter. He earned CoSIDA Academic All-District I first team and NE10 Academic All-Conference honors this season and has also been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court following his junior year. Moreton has been inducted to the Financial Management Association Honor Society and been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll seven semesters, receiving Academic Distinction status each of the last five for having a semester GPA between 3.50 and 3.99, and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll six semesters.

Moreton, the NE10 Player of the Year, earned a spot on the Division II Bulletin All-America team this season as well as All-East Region first team honors from both the NABC and D2CCA. The three-time All-NE10 performer, with first team accolades this season after being selected to the second team as a sophomore and junior, led Stonehill in scoring, rebounding and assists for the third-straight season this winter.          Moreton, named an honorable mention selection to the D2EastHoops.org All-Decade Team, finished his career ranked fourth in program history with 1,841 points, while his 265 career three-point field goals is second in program history behind only Jon Cronin, '92's 308 threes. He was a 44.5-percent shooter for his career, including 39.6% from three, shooting 77.7% from the free-throw line, while adding 851 rebounds, 274 assists, 131 steals and 79 blocked shots. He leads all active players in the NE10 for career points, which ranks 14th nationally in Division II, while ranking 12th among active players in Division II for rebounds, tenth with 32 career double-doubles and 14th for career three-pointers. Moreton was one of three small college selections to USA Basketball East Coast last summer. The team, coached by Syracuse University associate head coach Adrian Autry, and included players from major Division I programs, toured and competed in Greece last June.

With 23 intercollegiate sports after announcing the addition of women's swimming for the 2020-21 academic year and women's ice hockey for 2021-22, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. Stonehill has won the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup five times, all coming within the last 14 years. The Skyhawks have received the NCAA Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Achievement each of the first nine years of the program's existence of honoring institutions with an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90-percent or better. Stonehill has earned a 95% Academic Success Ranking (ASR) by the NCAA, which considers the academic success rate of the institution based on the graduation rate of student-athletes, good for tenth among all NCAA Division II institutions, with nine Skyhawk teams receiving a perfect rating of 100%.
