Men's Track & Field Set To Compete At NE-10 Outdoor Championships

EASTON, Mass. (May 6, 2016) – The Stonehill College men's track & field team returns to action today and Saturday at the 2016 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Host American International has been picked to finish first in the pre-championship coaches' poll conducted by the NE-10's 11 head coaches. The Yellow Jackets received 96 total votes, including six first place votes, while Southern Connecticut State University checked in second with 94 votes and four first place votes. Franklin Pierce University (80 votes) collected the final first place vote and was picked third. Stonehill (71 votes) and Merrimack College (57 votes) round out the top five.

Sophomore Anthony Innamorati (Clinton, Massachusetts/Clinton), the reigning NE-10 Outdoor champion in the pole vault, will defend his title today and is seeded third with a height of 14-feet, 5.25-inches. Classmate Dillon Nuemann (Harwinton, Connecticut/Lewis Mills) and freshman Daniel Bomba (Putnam Valley, New York/Iona Prep) are seeded fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault with heights of 14-feet and 13-feet, 5.25-inches.

Junior All-American Matt Baldasare (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) is seeded third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.35 seconds and eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.44 seconds. Sophomore Patrick Ahern (Charlotte, North Carolina/Providence Day School) will join Baldasare in the 400-meter dash and is ranked eighth in 50.81 seconds.

Sophomore Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) will look to achieve All-Conference honors in the Decathlon after just missing out last year with a third place finish. Hamalian is seeded second this year with 5889 points.

Sophomore Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) is seeded third in the hammer throw with a distance of 175-feet, 6-inches, while senior Mason Griffin (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley) is seeded eighth with a mark of 148-feet, 7-inches. Griffin is also competing in the shot put and is seeded fourth with a distance of 51-feet, 6.5 inches.

Freshman Lucas Taxter (Readville, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) leads a group of three Stonehill entries placed in the top ten, as the freshman is seeded fifth in 3:54.29 seconds. Classmate Riley Dowd (Peabody, Massachusetts/Peabody Veterans Memorial) is seeded eighth (3:59.29), while senior Robert Massey (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) is picked to finish in tenth (4:00.82).

Two Stonehill relays are picked to finish in the top three, as the 4x800 meter relay is seeded second with a time of 7:56.79 and the 4x100 meter relay is seeded third in 42.46 seconds.

Sophomore James Murphy (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) is seeded sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:01.87, while classmate Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) is picked to finish sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.89 seconds.

Junior Antonio Xelhua (Arlington, Massachusetts/Arlington) and sophomore Jordan Sullivan (Sound Beach, New York/Miller Place) are seeded fourth in their respective events. Xelhua in the 10000-meter run (32:29.45) and Sullivan in the high jump (6-feet, 2.75-inches).

Junior Joe Santo (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) who earned All-Northeast-10 honors during the indoor season, is seeded fifth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:08.13.

Freshman Joe Connolly (Wilmington, Massachusetts/Austin Prep) is picked to finish 11th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.18 seconds, while classmates Stephen Vercollone (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) and David Lockhart (Stoughton, Massachusetts/Stoughton) are seeded 14th and 17th in the 800-meter run with times of 1:55.32 and 1:55.49.
