Santo and DMR Pace Stonehill on Day One of New England Championships

DMR and Santo post All-New England performances for Skyhawks 

BOSTON, Mass. (February 26, 2016) – The Stonehill College men's track and field program posted a pair of All-New England performances on day one of the 2016 New England Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Boston University, at the BU Track & Tennis Center tonight.

Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team posted an All-New England performance by finishing seventh in 9:56.71 to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas, in two weeks. The team posted the 12th fastest time in the country to date as freshman David Lockhart (Stoughton, Massachusetts/Stoughton) ran the opening 1200-meter leg in 3:03.9, before junior All-American Matt Baldasare (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) completed the 400-meter leg in 49.1-seconds, junior Duncan Burleigh (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) ran the 800-meter leg in 1:54.8 and then senior Robert Massey (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) completed the mile anchor leg in 4:08.7.

Junior Joe Santo (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) earned All-New England honors for the first time in his career with a sixth place finish in the 5000-meter run with a personal-best time of 14:51.82. Junior Antonio Xelhua (Arlington, Massachusetts/Arlington) finished 18th out of 31 competitors in the event in a personal-best 15:20.35.

Stonehill sits in 14th place in the team standings through five events with five points. The University of Rhode Island is in first with 23 points.

Sophomore Anthony Innamorati (Clinton, Massachusetts/Clinton) finished 13th in the pole vault by clearing a program-record matching 14-feet, 11-inches. The school mark was set by Luke Byrnes '13 on January 25, 2013, at the Joe Donahue Games at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center. 

Other Results Included: 

Sophomore Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) placed 17th in the weight throw with a distance of 49-feet, 1-inch.

Freshman Joe Connolly (Wilmington, Massachusetts/Austin Prep) placed 20th in the 200-meter dash prelims with a time of 22.34-seconds.

Sophomore Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) finished 21st in the 800-meter prelims with a time of 1:54.75, while freshman Stephen Vercollone (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) was 31st in 1:58.09.

Stonehill is back in action for day two of the New England Indoor Track & Field Championships tomorrow at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center beginning at 10 a.m.
