EASTON, Mass. (March 28, 2016) – Two members of the Stonehill College track and field program have collected weekly honors from the Northeast-10 Conference today.

Sophomore Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) has been named the Northeast-10's Male Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career, while freshman Stephen Vercollone (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) has earned Male Track Rookie of the Week accolades for the first time for their efforts as event winners at Stonehill's outdoor opener at the UMass Lowell Invitational on Saturday.

Hamalian, who earned USTFCCCA All-East Region honors in the heptathlon during the indoor season, competed in multiple events for Stonehill at UMass Lowell on Saturday and posted a first place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.89-seconds. He also ran the anchor leg for the Skyhawks 4x400-meter relay which finished second in 3:28.99 and cleared a personal-best 11-feet, 5.75-inches in the pole vault for a sixth place finish.

Hamalian has earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status each of his first three semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll two. He posted a personal-best time of 16.83-seconds in the 110-meter hurdles at the UMass Invitational as a freshman. Hamalian collected his All-East Region honor in the heptathlon this winter by posting 4,251 points to win the multi-event at the Tufts Stampede in January.

Vercollone, who earned All-New England honors as part of Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay team during the indoor season, collects Rookie of the Week honors for the first time after his winning performance at UMass Lowell on Saturday. He finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.93, edging out UMass Lowell freshman Randy Nong by 0.37-seconds.

Vercollone, who is also a member of the men's soccer program at Stonehill, enjoyed a strong indoor campaign for the Skyhawks in his rookie season. He was a New England Championships qualifier for both the 4x800 and 800-meter runs, helping the relay to a fourth place finish at the New England Championships in 7:40.50. Vercollone also finished third in the 800 at the NE-10 Championships (personal-best 1:54.93) and was part of the 4x800 that placed fourth that night (7:52.48) as well. He won in his collegiate debut in the 800 at the UMass Boston Indoor Open in December with a time of 1:58.85 and was also part of a winning 4x880-meter relay (8:09.36) at the Harvard University meet in mid-January.

Stonehill is back in action this weekend when it participates in the 51st Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary University, in Williamsburg, Virginia, Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2. Stonehill will host its annual Skyhawk Invitational on Saturday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m.
