NE-10 Track & Field Weekly Report
EASTON, Mass. (January 19, 2016) – The Stonehill College men's 4x800-meter relay team has been honored with Northeast-10 Conference Relay of the Week accolades after its performance this past weekend.
Stonehill's relay team turned in a first place finish in an elongated 4x880 relay at the Beantown Challenge, hosted by Harvard University, competing against primarily NCAA Division I competition. The Skyhawks finished the race in 8:09.36, which was run on a 220-meter track at Gordon Indoor Track, edging out the University of Massachusetts (8:11.13) by just under two-seconds. Junior Duncan Burleigh (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham), who also earned a spot on the Northeast-10's weekly honor roll for his individual efforts on Monday, ran the lead leg in 2:01.00, followed by freshman Stephen Vercollone (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) with a 2:02.2 split for the second leg, while sophomore Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) completed the third leg in 2:05.4 and then freshman David Lockhart (Stoughton, Massachusetts/Stoughton) ran the anchor leg in 2:00.6.
Saturday marked the season debut for Stonehill's 4x800 relay after its 4x400 posted a first place finish at its season-opening meet hosted by UMass Boston back on December 5. Saturday's meet marked a return to action for the Stonehill track & field teams to their indoor seasons after a six week break for finals and holidays. The Skyhawks 4x800 relay is one of the program's most decorated units, having posted the top time in Division II during the outdoor season last spring with its school-record time of 7:33.66 during a second place finish at the New England Championships in May.
Stonehill returns to action on Friday when it participates in the Joe Donahue Invitational, hosted by Northeastern University, at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center at 4 p.m.
