Clinton, Massachusetts, sophomore wins event for second straight year
Skyhawks sit third in team standings with 40.50 points
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 6, 2016) – Stonehill College sits in third place in the team standings with two student-athletes earning All-Conference honors on day one of the 2016 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by American International College, at John G. Hoyt Track & Field Complex today.
Sophomore Anthony Innamorati (Clinton, Massachusetts/Clinton) highlighted the first day for Stonehill by defending his title in the pole vault as he cleared a personal-best height of 15-feet, 1-inch on his second attempt. He cleared 13.11.25 on his first attempt before taking three tries at 14-05.25 before clearing and then slipped past 14-09 on the second attempt before clearing his winning standard, which bests his previous personal best by nearly six inches.
Innamorati led three Skyhawks that scored in the event as freshman Daniel Bomba (Putnam Valley, New York/Iona Prep) placed fourth with a personal-best matching height of 13-05.25 on his first attempt, while sophomore Dillon Neumann (Harwinton, Connecticut/Lewis Mills) finished seventh at the same height of 13-05.25 in two attempts.
Stonehill sits in third place in the team standings with 40.50 points through the seven completed events on day one. Southern Connecticut State University leads the team standings with 82.50 points, while American International College is second with 48 points.
Junior Joe Santo (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) earned All-Northeast-10 Conference honors with his second place finish in the 10,000-meter run in a personal-best time of 31:16.24. Classmate Antonio Xelhua (Arlington, Massachusetts/Arlington) also scored for Stonehill in the event with his seventh place finish in 32:49.44.
Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay team finished third in 7:41.35, with freshman Stephen Vercollone (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke), junior Duncan Burleigh (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham), freshman David Lockhart (Stoughton, Massachusetts/Stoughton) and sophomore Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) running the legs for the Skyhawks.

Sophomore Stefan Balestra (Lincoln, Rhode Island/Lincoln) and senior Mason Griffin (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley) both scored for Stonehill in the hammer throw. Balestra placed fourth with a distance of 163-07, while Griffin recorded a throw of 148-05.
Sophomore Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) sits in fifth place after day one of the decathlon with 3,078 points. He placed second for the high jump by clearing a personal-best height of 6-feet, even, and was third in the long jump with a distance of 20-feet, 10-inches. He also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.01-seconds.
Junior All-American Matt Baldasare (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) qualified for tomorrow's 200-meter dash final with the fifth-fastest time in today's preliminary heats in a persona-best 22.24-seconds. Sophomore Joshua Hubbell (Gloucester, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) placed 14th out of 25 entries in a personal-best 22.95-seconds, while freshman Michael Mejias, Jr. (Lynn, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) was 23rd in 23.54.

Freshman Lucas Taxter (Readville, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) led a pack of four straight Stonehill runners in the 1500-meter run with his ninth place finish in 4:00.51. Senior Robert Massey (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) rounded out the top ten in 4:01.06, while freshman Christopher Drace (Franklin, New Jersey/Pope John XXIII) finished 11th in a personal-best 4:01.36 and classmate Alexander Demeule (Merrimac, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) was 12th in a personal-best 4:02.49.
Freshman Joe Connolly (Wilmington, Massachusetts/Austin Prep) placed 22nd in the 100-meter dash preliminary heats in 11.65-seconds.
Day two of the NE-10 Championships gets underway on Saturday with the final five events of the decathlon starting at 9 a.m. Field events open with the high jump at 10:15 a.m., with the track events starting at 12:30 p.m.
