Conte's Late Two-Run RBI Gives Softball Split At Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 16, 2022)- The Stonehill College softball team split a pair of games at Saint Anslem College in Northeast-10 Conference action,0-11 and 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at South Athletic Fields.

Game one: Stonehill 0, Saint Anselm 11

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Saint Anselm struck early in the first when the Hawks plated three runs that featured a two-run RBI double by Kylee Royer.
  • The Hawks broke the game open in the second inning when they scored eight runs with Kylie Fitzpatrick driving in half those runs off a grand slam. 
  • Going into the fifth with two outs, Conte kept the inning alive with a single down the left-field line. However, Saint Anselm starter, Halie Wicks retired the next batter for the 11-0 win. 
  • Molly Adamo made her 2022 pitching debut Saturday and tossed 2.1 scoreless innings and gave up just three hits.

Key Moments:

  • After a scoreless first two innings, the Hawks struck first after Gracie O'Hara drove in Kate Irwin for the 1-0 advantage. 
  • Stonehill responded in the top of the fourth and tied the game after Adinolfi reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Alexandra Hammond to score after she reached on an error from the right fielder that lead off the frame. 
  • Both sides continued to go back and forth as Saint Anselm reclaimed the lead in the fifth when Bailey Cain hit an RBI up the middle to make it 2-1.
  • Despite not scoring in the sixth, the Skyhawks ended up taking the lead back for good with a two-run seventh inning. After two quick outs, Paige Wodarski and May Dawes kept the Skyhawks' comeback chances alive with back-to-back singles. In the next at-bat, Conte came up with the clutch two-run RBI double after she sent a hard hit ball to right-center. 
  • Up 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, the Hawks threatened after Irwin hit a single past third to lead off the inning. Ava Caputo then moved Irwin to third after a sacrifice bunt. After an intentional walk and hit by pitch, the bases were loaded with two outs, but Brandemarte escaped the jam when she induced a flyout to right for the NE10 victory.
