AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 5, 2022)- In a game that saw four lead changes, and two ties, the Stonehill College softball team came up short in their 2022 season opener against Cedarville University, 5-4 Saturday afternoon at the Auburndale Softball Complex.

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Stonehill struck first in the top half of the first inning when Wodarski sent a double to deep right-center and ended up scoring Alexa Adinolfi who had walked to start off the inning. Wodarski's RBI also was the first of her collegiate career.
  • However as the second inning got underway, the Yellow Jackets retook the lead (2-1) after McKenna Smith hit a double of her own to drive in two runs.
  • Despite being down, the Skyhawks responded with a two-run fourth inning to retake the lead (3-2). After Dawes reached on a sacrifice bunt, she drove in Maeve Proulx for her first collegiate RBI. Stonehill ended up taking the lead when Dawes capitalized on a Cedarville wild pitch scoring from third base.
  • Cedarville ended up taking the lead back for good after they scored three runs between the fourth and fifth innings that featured a Casey Bertke home run in the fifth which pushed it to 5-3, Yellow Jackets.
  • The Skyhawks did not go quietly as Grossi had her first collegiate RBI driving in Adinolfi (5-4) after reaching from a fielder's choice earlier that inning. Unfortunately, Bertke kept the Skyhawks off the scoreboard the rest of the inning and preserved their lead.
  • On the bump for Stonehill, Skylar Brandemarte made her first collegiate start and tossed a full six innings, allowed eight hits, and struck out two.

Pitching Records:
