EASTON, Mass. (April 12, 2022)- The Stonehill College softball team ended up splitting with Assumption University in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader by the scores of 4-3 and 1-3 Tuesday afternoon at Father Gartland Field.

Game One: Stonehill 4, Assumption 3

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Assumption struck first in game one after Kali Scirocco ripped an RBI double through the right side to give the Greyhounds an early 2-0 lead.
  • Stonehill's offense always threatened in the next two innings by always having at least two runners on base but it was in the fifth when the squad tied things back up at two. Kelly got the rally started when she sent a single past second base and later in the inning, Brochu hit a double to right that allowed Kelly to score the Skyhawks first run. Two batters later, Dawes evened the contest up after an RBI single that went off the pitcher and rolled over to third base before the fielder could make the throw.
  • From that point on, Stonehill starter, Skylar Brandemarte stalled the Assumption offense for the next two innings to force extras when she ended the Assumption rally in the seventh after she induced a foul out to short.
  • However, in the eighth the Greyhounds retook the lead when Summer Sheerin drove in a run that gave Assumption the 3-2 lead heading into the final frame for the Skyhawks.
  • Despite being down, the purple and white responded yet again. Alexandra Hammond started the inning off with an double to right-center and after being moved up from a sacrifice bunt by Molly Adamo, Adinolfi drove Hammond in with a sacrifice fly that evened the game at three.
  • Kelly continued the momentum with a double to center field for her fourth hit of the afternoon. Her four hits in a game marked a career-high for the freshman and was her fifth multi-hit game of the season.  In the next at-bat, Nardelli ripped a shot to left field that landed by the left fielder and was far enough to score Kelly for the Stonehill win. With the game-winning RBI, Nardelli notched her seventh RBI of the season and first walk-off in her career.

Pitching Records:

Win: Stonehill-Skylar Brandemarte (7-7)

Loss: Assumption- Erin Barry (6-7)

Game two: Stonehill 1, Assumption 3

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Just like game one, Assumption got on the board first courtesy of an RBI single by Scirocco for the early 1-0 lead.
  • Later in the fourth inning, Scirocco struck again for the Greyhounds when she hit a solo home run to left and increased the Assumption lead to 2-0. The Greyhounds struck again in the next inning off an RBI double by Corin Mahan which made it 3-0.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, the Skyhawks responded when Dwyer sent a double to right field that scored Alyssa Grossi after she had singled to lead off the inning.
  • Kelly Mayette kept Stonehill within striking distance by not allowing a run after the fifth and got out of a jam in the sixth that saw runners on first and second with two outs before she forced a Greyhounds ground out to keep the deficit at two.
  • Assumption starter, Anna Tassone kept Stonehill at bay for the next innings by not allowing a hit to maintain the 3-1 win for the Greyhounds.

Pitching Records:

Win: Assumption- Anna Tassone (2-3)

Loss: Stonehill- Kelly Mayette (2-8)
