No. 19 Saint Anselm Sweeps Softball in Doubleheader

Hartman records one of Skyhawks' five hits on the day

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (April 30, 2021) – The Stonehill College softball team (5-21, 4-18 NE10) fell to No. 19 Saint Anselm College (22-4, 19-3 NE10) twice Friday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play with scores of 8-0 and 13-0 in five innings each.

Game 1: Stonehill 0 – Saint Anselm 8 (5 innings)

Stonehill held Saint Anselm to one hit in the first and second innings, as Hartman tallied the lone hit for the Skyhawks in the top of the second inning.  

The Hawks led off the bottom of the third inning with a walk, and with one out, Erin Thompson advanced to third. After the second out, Bre Klaiber tripled to right center and Thompson scored the first run of the game, 1-0. Lauren Washburn then singled down the left field line to give Saint Anselm a 2-0 lead. Stonehill saw their second base runner of the game in the top of the fourth, as Hartman walked, but Saint Anselm retired the side.

The Skyhawks kept one run off the board in the bottom of the fourth with a tag out at home plate on a fielder's choice. With runners on second and third, Thompson recorded an RBI single to put the Hawks up 3-0 and Stonehill retired the side. In the bottom of the fifth with one out, Saint Anselm put up five runs on five hits to take the win, 8-0.

Stonehill saw back-to-back hits in the top of the first but they stranded both runners on base, as McKenna Smith tallied her third strikeout. After a scoreless bottom of the first inning, Saint Anselm registered 13 runs on 13 hits in the bottom of the second.

The Skyhawks retired six-straight batters after the Hawks' broke open the game, until Beanie Luttig doubled in the bottom of the fourth. With one last go around, Stonehill saw Adinolfi with her first-career double in the top of the fifth, but she was left on second as the Hawks retired the side to hold on for the win.

Stonehill will conclude the regular season with its final doubleheader against No. 19 Saint Anselm College tomorrow, Saturday, May 1 in Manchester, New Hampshire on the South Athletic Fields. Tomorrow's games are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 pm.
