GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (October 3, 2009) - Stonehill College, ranked fifth in this week's Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, extended its winning streak to ten games with a 2-1 victory over Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Competition Field today.

Senior Claire Hourihan (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) scored the game-winning goal and in the process became just the second player in program history to surpass 100 points for her career. Junior Courtney Foley (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) also netted a goal for the Skyhawks who won their tenth-straight game.

Junior goalkeeper Courtney Osier (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) made two second half saves to preserve the win for Stonehill. Sophomore Lucia Vigliotti (Westbury, N.Y./W.T. Clarke) finished with four stops in goal for Adelphi who was out-shot 12-5 by the Skyhawks.

Junior Courtney Foley opened the scoring today with her fifth goal of the season.

All three goals were scored within a span of 5:05 early in the second half. Foley put Stonehill in front 8:50 into the stanza when she converted a penalty stroke for her fifth goal of the season. Adelphi answered less than three minutes later as freshman Cassie Cabral (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) pounced on a rebound and evened the contest at 46:29. Hourihan put the Skyhawks in front for good just under two and a half minutes later when she took a pass from senior Stephanie Kott (Rutland, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) and fired in her team-leading 13th goal of the season at 48:55.

The goal for Hourihan is the 42nd of her career, moving into a tie for second on Stonehill's career list with former teammate Aly Boulis (2004-2007). Hourihan's goal also gives her 101 career points, becoming just the second player in program history to reach the 100 career point plateau - joining Caitlin Gleason who totaled a program record 132 points from 2004-07, including a record 53 goals. Hourihan is the 13th field hockey player in NE-10 history to reach 100 career points.
