The Game
Stonehill College returns to Staten Island for the first time since 2009 and first time as a Northeast Conference member as it visits Wagner College for an NEC matchup at Hameline Field at Wagner College Stadium this afternoon. The Skyhawks are looking to build off a 22-19 double-overtime victory over Sacred Heart University last weekend, while the Seahawks look to bounce back from three-straight losses following a 17-3 setback to Central Connecticut State University here last Saturday.

Media Info
This afternoon's game is being presented live by on NEC Front Row by Wagner College with Marc Ernay (PBP) and Jeff Leniart (Analyst) calling the action. The broadcast can be accessed via stonehillskyhawks.com through its NEC Front Row portal (necfrontrow.com/schools/SC) or through Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku via the NEC On the Run App.

Last Time Out
Senior running back Jermaine Corbett (Long Branch, N.J.) scored his second touchdown of the day with a five yard run in double-overtime to lift Stonehill to a 22-19 triumph over Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference action on a rainy Homecoming at W.B. Mason Stadium. Corbett's career-high 33rd carry of the afternoon answered a go-ahead 25-yard field goal by Sacred Heart's Sam Renzi on the Pioneers second possession of overtime, scoring the deciding touchdown five plays later. He rushed for 16 of Stonehill's 25-yards on its final possession and finished the day with 146 yards for his third 100-yard game of the season (seventh career) in his return after a two-week absence to injury. Stonehill also got a career-high 76 receiving yards from junior tight end Noah Canty (Dover, Mass.) on five receptions and a touchdown that knotted the score with 7:50 remaining in the fourth quarter and would prove to force overtime. Junior quarterback Ashur Carraha (Cambridge, Mass.) finished with 184 total yards, completing 11-of-28 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown, while adding another 32 yards on eight carries. Senior Sam Murphy (Lockport, N.Y.) led a Stonehill defense that buckled down and held Sacred Heart to just one touchdown and four field goals – and just six points in regulation after the first quarter before the offense was able to get on track - reaching double-figures for the third-straight game - with a career-high 13 tackles (nine solo), including 3.0 for a loss of six yards, a sack and a quarterback hurry. Senior Anthony LaMonica (Dorchester, Mass.) contributed a career-best eight stops (seven solo), including 2.0 for a loss of three, and 1.0 sacks for a loss of one, a pass breakup and two quarterback hurries.

Against the Seahawks
This afternoon marks the fourth meeting all-time between these programs. Stonehill has won each of the previous three encounters in the series that dates back to 2008, including a 50-10 triumph over Wagner in their first NEC matchup in Easton, Massachusetts, last season. The Skyhawks are 1-0 all-time here at Hameline Field, posting a 45-42 victory here on September 5, 2009. Stonehill head coach Eli Gardner is 1-0 all-time against the Seahawks as head coach, but was in his first year as a member of former head coach (and Staten Island native) Rob Talley's coaching staff, serving as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach, for the team's last visit to Staten Island in 2009. Wagner head coach Tom Masella is 0-1 all-time against the Skyhawks.

Last Time They Met
Stonehill saw five different players reach the end zone and racked up almost 400-yards rushing in returning to the win column with a 50-10 triumph over Wagner in a Northeast Conference matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium. Jermaine Corbett (Long Branch, N.J.) paced the Stonehill rushing attack with a season-high 227 yards on 16 carries with three touchdowns as he averaged 14.2 yards per carry for the game. Matt Arvanitis (Holliston, Mass.) added 88 yards on 11 carries with a score, while Tom Comella (Johnston, R.I.) reached the end zone twice on six touches as Stonehill finished the day with 399 rushing yards, averaging 9.5 yards on its rushing plays, of the 617 yards of total offense it recorded for the afternoon, marking the Skyhawks first 600-yard day since posting a program-record 662 against MIT on October 2, 1994. David Fuller-Williams (Williamstown, N.J.) led the Stonehill defense with six tackles (three solo), including 2.0 sacks for a loss of seven and a pass breakup.

Three-Time NEC Offensive Player of the Week
Stonehill senior running back Jermaine Corbett (Long Branch, N.J.) was named the Northeast Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday, to go with back-to-back honors after wins at Central Connecticut State and Georgetown earlier this season. Corbett earns NEC Player of the Week honors for the fifth time over the last two seasons overall, to go with a Northeast-10 Offensive Player of the Week recognition in 2021. He returned to the Stonehill backfield after a two week absence to injury and posted his third 100-yard rushing game of the season with two touchdowns, including the game winning score in double-overtime that clinched a 22-19 Homecoming triumph over Sacred Heart on Saturday. He carried the ball a career-high 33 times for 146 yards, scoring on runs of four yards to give Stonehill a 7-3 lead in the first quarter, before his walk-off five-yard score capped the Skyhawks 25-yard possession in which he accounted for 16 in double-overtime.

Welcome Returns
Stonehill enjoyed the return of senior running back Jermaine Corbett (Long Branch, N.J.) in last week's 22-19 double-overtime win over Sacred Heart after missing two games to injury since the first half of the Skyhawks matchup at No. 22 Fordham in week four. He rushed the ball a career-high 33 times for 146 yards, marking his third 100-yard game of the season, with two touchdowns, including the walk-off game-winning five-yard touchdown run in double-overtime to lift the Skyhawks to victory. What Canty Do?
Stonehill junior tight end Noah Canty (Dover, Mass.) caught four passes for a career-high 76 yards and a touchdown against Sacred Heart on Saturday. Aye, Aye Captains
Stonehill head coach Eli Gardner and his coaching staff have named four captains for the 2023 season. Fifth-year offensive lineman Thomas Walsh (Waldwick, N.J.) has been named a captain for the second-straight year and is joined by postgrad lineman David Satkowski (Southbury, Conn.), senior wide receiver Cameron Alves (Cranston, R.I.) and senior linebacker Sam Murphy (Lockport, N.Y.) as captain following a vote of their teammates during spring ball.

Celebrating 75 Years
Stonehill College, founded in 1948 is celebrating its 75th Anniversary during the 2023-24 academic year. In September 1948, some 134 students — many of whom were veterans from World War II — gathered with the eight teachers who would serve as their faculty to celebrate Mass at the Chapel in Donahue Hall. That small gathering of students and teachers marked the beginning of Stonehill College. The College will host a 75th Anniversary Celebration on Friday, September 29 (Rain Date: Saturday, September 30). This event will coincide with Family Weekend as well as the Skyhawks NEC matchup with Saint Francis University (1 p.m.). All are welcome to attend our outdoor Jubilee Mass, which will be followed by music, games and more. The festivities will conclude with a fireworks display.

MOVIN' ON UP!
Stonehill College announced in early April, 2022, that it had accepted an invitation to join the NCAA Division I Northeast Conference (NEC), beginning a four-year Division I transition period to conclude in 2026. The Skyhawks entire set of 23 varsity programs will now compete in the NEC, with the exception of equestrian, women's ice hockey (NEWHA) and men's ice hockey (independant) starting last fall.
