The Game
Stonehill College visits our Nation's Capital for the first time in program history as it visits Georgetown University in the inaugural meeting between the two programs in non-conference play at Cooper Field this afternoon. The Skyhawks look to build off last Saturday's thrilling 33-30 triumph at Central Connecticut State University to open Northeast Conference play, while the Hoyas are off to a 2-0 start for the first time since a 3-0 start to the 2016 season after a 27-10 victory over NEC foe Sacred Heart University here at Cooper Field last Saturday.

Media Info
This afternoon's game is being broadcast live on ESPN+ with Jeremy Huber (play-by-play) and Lynell Willingham (analyst) calling the action on ESPN's online broadcasting service, produced by Georgetown University and Linacre Media, directed by Corey Clarke. The broadcast can be accessed via the ESPN Watch app (subscription) through Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku. This is the first of two-straight Stonehill games and three over the next four games that will be broadcast on ESPN+, along with next Saturday's non-conference matchup at No. 22 Fordham and the Skyhawks October 7 NEC clash at Merrimack College to kick off the Conference's television package.

Welcome Alumni
Stonehill's alumni relations office is hosting a pre-game tailgate at Higgins Plaza adjacent to Cooper Field on the Georgetown University campus. Stonehill President Rev. John Denning, CSC, will be on hand for the tailgate between 10 a.m. and noon for alumni, parents and friends of the Skyhawks football program.

Last Time Out
Senior placekicker Perry Shelbred (Ridgefield, Conn.) delivered a program-record matching 52-yard field goal as time expired to lift Stonehill to a 33-30 triumph over Central Connecticut State o open its second Northeast Conference campaign at Arute Field. Shelbred's career-best field goal matches the program-best set by Joe Crowley, '04 against Bryant University during the 2003 season and marked the Skyhawks first 50-plus yarder since Matt Haite, '20 converted from 51-yards at Saint Anselm College in 2019. The field goal also staved off a 23-point fourth quarter comeback effort from Central Connecticut who erased a 16-point deficit after three quarters of play to knot the score twice in the final 8:10, including a pair of two-point conversions, capped by a three-yard touchdown scamper by sophomore Ricky Ortega with 63-seconds remaining in regulation. Stonehill marched 40-yards in eight plays, led by 30 yards on the ground from senior preseason All-NEC running back Jermaine Corbett (Long Branch, N.J.), to give Shelbred the gamewinning opportunity as time expired. Corbett paced a Stonehill offense that finished with 399 yards of total offense with a game and career-high 238 all-purpose yards as he carried the ball 28 times for a season-high 182 yards and a score, while collecting five receptions for another 57. Senior Tom Comella (Johnston, R.I.) added 147 all-purpose, contributing 64 yards on seven carries, including a 47-yard touchdown run, with another 83 yards on three kickoff returns. Junior quarterback Ashur Carraha (Cambridge, Mass.) completed 17-of-30 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns, while Shelbred also added a 22-yard field goal in the first half for Stonehill. Senior Micah Brown (Depew, N.Y.) paced the Stonehill defense with seven tackles, including two key forced fumbles on the first play of the game and then at the goalline to prevent a second quarter CCSU touchdown. Classmate Devin Fortes (Brockton, Mass.) finished with a career-high seven tackles (five solo) on defense for Stonehill, while classmate Anthony LaMonica (Dorchester, Mass.) added a career-best six stops (thee solo), including 1.0 tackles for a loss of ten yards, and a pass breakup.

This afternoon marks the first meeting all-time between these two programs, in fact it's the first meeting between Stonehill and Georgetown in all sports. It also marks the Skyhawks first matchup against a Patriot League member.

It's a Boy!
Stonehill associate head coach and offensive coordinator Tyler Moody and his wife, Southey (SUTH-ee), welcomed their first child with the arrival of their son, Rhodes Saul, on Thursday, September 7. Coach Moody handed over the play-calling duties at Central Connecticut State to offensive line coach Dylan Berardelli to attend to the exciting family matters, but is back in the coaches box this weekend at Georgetown.

One and Oh, Two in a Row!
Stonehill won its Northeast Conference opener for the second-straight year since joining the Conference in April 2022. The Skyhawks opened its inaugural NCAA I FCS season in the NEC with a 24-20 victory over Duquesne University at W.B. Mason Stadium last October, in a game televised on ESPN3, followed by Saturday's 33-30 triumph at Central Connecticut State.

AYE, AYE CAPTAINS
Stonehill head coach Eli Gardner and his coaching staff have named four captains for the 2023 season. Fifth-year offensive lineman Thomas Walsh (Waldwick, N.J.) has been named a captain for the second-straight year and is joined by postgrad lineman David Satkowski (Southbury, Conn.), senior wide receiver Cameron Alves (Cranston, R.I.) and senior linebacker Sam Murphy (Lockport, N.Y.) as captain following a vote of their teammates during spring ball.

Celebrating 75 Years
Stonehill College, founded in 1948 is celebrating its 75th Anniversary during the 2023-24 academic year. In September 1948, some 134 students — many of whom were veterans from World War II — gathered with the eight teachers who would serve as their faculty to celebrate Mass at the Chapel in Donahue Hall. That small gathering of students and teachers marked the beginning of Stonehill College. The College will host a 75th Anniversary Celebration on Friday, September 29 (Rain Date: Saturday, September 30). This event will coincide with Family Weekend as well as the Skyhawks NEC matchup with Saint Francis University (1 p.m.). All are welcome to attend our outdoor Jubilee Mass, which will be followed by music, games and more. The festivities will conclude with a fireworks display.

MOVIN' ON UP!
Stonehill College announced in early April, 2022, that it had accepted an invitation to join the NCAA Division I Northeast Conference (NEC), beginning a four-year Division I transition period to conclude in 2026. The Skyhawks entire set of 23 varsity programs will now compete in the NEC, with the exception of equestrian, women's ice hockey (NEWHA) and men's ice hockey (independant) starting last fall.

University, as part of the College's Jubilee Celebration festivities at W.B. Mason Stadium at 1 p.m.
