EASTON, Mass. (October 24, 2023) – Stonehill College senior running back Jermaine Corbett was named the Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season by the league office on Monday.

Corbett, who collects NEC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the fifth time over the last two years to go with a Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week selection as a sophomore in 2021, returned to the Stonehill backfield after a two week absence to injury and posted his third 100-yard rushing game of the season (seventh career) with two touchdowns, including the game winning score in double-overtime that clinched a 22-19 Homecoming triumph over Sacred Heart University at W.B. Mason Stadium on Saturday. He carried the ball a career-high 33 times for 146 yards, scoring on runs of four yards to give Stonehill a 7-3 lead in the first quarter, before his walk-off five-yard score capped the Skyhawks 25-yard possession in which he accounted for 16 in double-overtime.

Corbett was also named an NEC Prime Performer for the third time this season for his efforts, along with senior linebacker Sam Murphy who earned Prime Performer status for a team-leading fourth week this year. Murphy, an NEC Defensive Player of the Week once this season, keyed a Stonehill defense that held Sacred Heart to just two field goals in regulation after the first quarter. He totaled a career-high 13 tackles (ten solo), including a career-best 3.0 for a loss of six yards, a sack and quarterback hurry.

Corbett leads the NEC with his seven rushing touchdowns this season despite missing two games with an injury. He ranks second in the Conference, averaging 118.6 rushing yards per game, while his 593 yards and 129 rushing attempts are third. The Conference-best seven touchdown carries are second overall in the NEC for total touchdowns, while he leads the NEC with 8.4 points per game and his 42 total points rank fifth. He leads the NEC with 142.0 all-purpose yards per game, ranking fourth with 710 all-purpose yards, and sixth among NEC leaders with 118.6 total yards per game.

The NEC preseason All-Conference selection and All-NEC first team pick in 2022, now ranks eighth among Stonehill career rushing leaders with 1,762 yards in 20 career games, is tied for fourth with 18 career rushing touchdowns, while ranking tenth with 326 rushing attempts.

Stonehill (3-4, 2-2 NEC) returns to action on Saturday when it visits Wagner College for an NEC matchup on Staten Island at noon. The Skyhawks return to W.B. Mason Stadium on Saturday, November 18, to close out the 2023 season with a Senior Day matchup against LIU at 1 p.m.
