Baseball Strikes Out Saint Anselm in Twin Bill

Skyhawks recognize three seniors prior to the game

EASTON, Massachusetts (May 1, 2021) – The Stonehill College baseball team (13-12, 8-10 NE10) saw career best days on the mound, as the Skyhawks defeated Saint Anselm College (10-14, 5-12 NE10) with scores of 11-6 and 7-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play Saturday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field.

Key Moments:

Stonehill's first two runs in the first game were scored on a wild pitch and a throwing error to put the Skyhawks up 2-0 by the third inning. In the bottom of the fifth with one out, Kiely doubled down the right field line, and Lidsky drove him in with his first-career triple, 3-0.

Saint Anselm finally put up their first run of the game in the top of the sixth as Dan Baker singled and stole second to lead off, followed by Brady Doran singling to left center, to bring home Baker, 3-1. Stonehill responded and took a three-run lead back as Swanholm grounded out to third, scoring Herrick from third, 4-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Stonehill broke open the game with six runs on seven hits, including Duarte's first homerun of the season and sixth of his career, extending the Skyhawks' lead to nine, 10-1. Stonehill scored one more run in the bottom of the eighth before Saint Anselm gave it one last go in the top of the ninth as they scored five runs on three hits, cutting its deficit to five, 11-6.

Kiely went 4-for-7 with 2 RBI, 2 doubles, 2 runs scored in the two games

Key Moments:

Saint Anselm put a base runner on in each of the innings except for the sixth, where Stonehill retired three-straight. The Skyhawks put up two runs with no outs in the bottom of the first inning as Kiely scored on Orzechowski's single, and the senior moved around the bases on wild pitches, 2-0.

The Hawks then retired seven-straight Skyhawks until the Roberti singled up the middle in the bottom of the fifth and moved around the bases and scored on a wild pitch to put the Skyhawks up 3-0. Stonehill broke open the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as Orzechowski led off with a walk. Lucier tripled down the right field line, scoring Orzechowski and the Skyhawks went on to score three more runs to extend its lead to seven, 7-0.

Both Brady Doran and Matt Collins singled to get on base in the top of the seventh and with two outs, Kyle Maurice sent out a long ball over the left field fence to cut the deficit to four, 7-3, as Mike Borrelli grounded out to end the game.
