Baseball Defeats Bentley, 7-4

Lidsky swings 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, run scored, walk, stolen base

WALTHAM, Massachusetts (April 21, 2021) – The Stonehill College baseball team defeated Northeast-10 Conference foe, Bentley University, 7-4, in seven innings in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon at DeFelice Field, as the game was shortened due to weather.

The Stonehill College baseball team (10-9, 5-7 NE10) is ranked No. 3 in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) week three rankings, while Bentley University (12-6, 11-5 NE10) is ranked No. 2 in the poll and No. 4 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Poll.

Kiely went 2-for-4 with 2 runs and a stolen base

Kiely led off the game with a single to right field and stole second. Lidsky, with one out, drove the ball out to left field, scoring Kiely for the first run of the game, 1-0. The Skyhawks saw back-to-back singles from Herrick and Duarte, as Herrick's single drove in a second run, 2-0. After a second out, Chris Roberti reached on a fielding error, and Herrick crossed home from third for the third run of the inning, 3-0.

Bentley responded right away in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on three hits, cutting the deficit to one, 3-2. Steve Rizzuto singled through the left side to load the bases with no outs, and Ryan Berardino singled up the middle, driving in Kyle Halloran and Tim Zupkus.

In the top of the third with one out, Noah Lucier sent a fly ball out to right field for a sacrifice fly letting Herrick tag up from third. 4-2. Roberti tallied his own RBI with a single to right field following Lucier, extending the Skyhawks' lead to three, 5-2. The Falcons were only able to put up one run in the bottom of the frame, 5-3, on Berardino's sacrifice fly to center field. Bentley put up one more run in the bottom of the fourth, 5-4, before Stonehill's pitching staff kept the Falcons from scoring.

Kiely singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth, as Orzechowski also singled putting runners on second and third for Lidsky. The catcher drove the ball out to left field for a 2-run single, extending their lead to three, 7-4.

Sophomore Billy Duff, who came into the game in the bottom of the fifth, retired three-straight batters with strikeouts in the sixth. The Skyhawks were retired in the top of the seventh before the game was called due to lightning.
