Baseball Sweeps Twin Bill, Split Series with Assumption

Beauregard threw first complete game, six strikeouts, third win of career

EASTON, Massachusetts (April 11, 2021) – The Stonehill College baseball team (8-7, 5-7 NE10) split the four-game series with Assumption University (4-6, 4-6 NE10) Sunday afternoon after falling twice to them on Saturday at Lou Gorman Field in Northeast-10 Conference play with scores of 5-4 and 7-2.

Game 1: Stonehill 5 – Assumption 4

Assumption wasted no time putting runs on the board with Derek Adamson's two-run double to left center scoring two base runners that reached on errors, for a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first. The Greyhounds added to their lead in the top of the fourth, 3-0, on Connor Wironen's RBI single down the left field line with two outs and runners on first and third. Stonehill's Matt Smith got out of the bases loaded jam with one of his six strikeouts on the day.

The Skyhawks offense completely kicked in in the bottom of the fifth, starting with a one-out RBI single from Matt Farragher, scoring Lucier to cut the deficit to two, 3-1. Lucier and Beauregard found holes in left field in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game, 3-3.


Duarte went 3-for-6, 2 RBI, 2 runs, double in the two wins

Assumption would take back the lead in the top of the seventh, 4-3, with Matt Schneider's lone hit on the day bringing home R.J. Libby who reached first after being hit by a pitch. Billy Duff came in relief for the Skyhawks and walked a batter to load the bases but then retired the side with back-to-back strikeouts leaving three runners on.

In the bottom of the seventh, Stonehill saw Mike Maher and Conor Kiely walk to lead off the inning. John Orzechowski moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt and after the second out, the greyhounds intentionally walked Duarte to load the bases. Swanholm connected and drove the ball into deep left field with the perfect hop to clear the fence for a game-winning ground rule double, 5-4.

Game 2: Stonehill 2 – Assumption 7

Key Moments:

Assumption put up their first run of the game as Jared Beradino doubled to right center, scoring Wironen after he reached on a single to left field, 1-0. Beauregard retired 19-straight batters following the double to the top of the ninth inning, as the Greyhounds only stranded four runners in the game.


Ciulla-Hall launched his second-career homerun, this one a three-run blast to left field in game two

Stonehill matched Assumption's score in the bottom of the fifth inning on Kiely's ground out, scored Chris Roberti from third after he reached on a double, 1-1. The Skyhawks then broke open the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with six runs on five hits, 7-1, including Ciulla-Hall's second homerun of the season, sending out a three-run blast to left field.

The Greyhounds looked to make something happen in the ninth with two outs, as Adamson and Schneider doubled for another run, 7-2, but Beauregard retired the side with a fly out to hold on for his third win of his career and first-career complete game.
