Quinn tallied his first homerun of the season, third career

BOCA RATON Florida (March 8, 2020) – The Stonehill College baseball team fell short to Lynn University Sunday afternoon in out of region play, 12-8, as they fought back with six runs in the ninth.

Standout Performers:  

• Rob Duarte: 1-for-5, 1 run scored, 3 RBI, double, stolen base
• Mike Swanholm: 2-for-5, 1 run scored, 1 RBI, homerun
• Thomas Quinn: 1-for-5, 1 run scored, 1 RBI, homerun

Key Moments:

• Lynn jumped on board in the bottom of the first putting the first two batters on and Trevor Romeo sent a long ball over the right center fence for a 3-0 lead. Duff retired two with strikeouts, but the Fighting Knights continued to power through scoring two more runs for a 5-0 advantage.
• Swanholm's second-collegiate homerun to right field cut the deficit to three, 5-2, in the top of the second inning, as Duff only allowed two base runners in the bottom of the frame.
• Lynn's bats came alive in the third inning, adding six runs to the lead on four hits and one error for a 11-2 advantage. Three of the six runs included another three-run shot for Romeo.
• The Skyhawks allowed one more homerun in the bottom of the fifth as the Fighting Knights extended their lead to 10, 12-2. Stonehill tried to hang on as they fought hard with two outs in the top of the ninth.
• Quinn kicked off the inning with a one-out solo shot to right center, his first homerun of the season, 12-3. With two outs and the bases loaded, Duarte doubled to right center clearing the bases and cutting the deficit to six, 12-6. Blaine Lidsky followed with an RBI single to left field scoring Duarte from third after he stole a base and Noah Lucier singled to right center adding to the score, 12-8, before the Fighting Knights got out of the jam with a ground out to secure the win.

Up Next:

Stonehill (6-5) faces Caldwell University once more tomorrow, Monday, March 9 to round out the third game this week with the Cougars. The game will be played on the campus of Lynn University with a first pitch at 11:00 a.m. in Boca Raton, Florida.
