Baseball Dominates in 16-2 Win Over Concordia (N.Y.)

Lucier went 3-for-4 at the plate with a game-high 5 RBI

MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (February 22, 2020) – The Stonehill College baseball team won its second-straight game in dominating fashion with a 16-2 victory over Concordia (N.Y.) University Saturday afternoon at the Ripken Experience Northeast Challenge.

Sophomore Jonathan Rice earned his first win as a Skyhawk as he went on to shut out the Clippers for six-straight innings allowing only two hits and striking out four batters. Concordia threw four pitchers including Michael Romano who recorded the loss and two of the eight strikeouts in the game.

Sophomore Noah Lucier went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored, 5 RBI, two walks, and his first triple of the season, while senior John Orzechowski followed swinging 3-for-5 with one run scored, three RBI and one walk. Sophomore Matt Farragher was the third Skyhawk to earn more than one RBI as he went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and one walk.

After four scoreless innings, the Skyhawks combined for seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings off of five hits, three of which were from Farragher, Orzechowski, and Lucier.

The Clippers put their first run across with a RBI double from Alvarez in the top of the seventh, as Stonehill really broke the game open with eight runs in the bottom of the frame, 15-1.

In the top of the eighth, the Skyhawks allowed a run by walked in Vlahkis off of Silva's only walk, 15-2, as Stonehill earned the run back with a RBI single from Swanholm, his first collegiate RBI, 16-2. In his first appearance on the mound for the Skyhawks, Billy Duff wrapped up the game with 2.0 innings of work, allowing one hit, one run, three walks, and three strikeouts.

Stonehill wraps up their trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina tomorrow, Sunday, February 23 with a game against the University of New Haven with a 9:00 a.m. first pitch.
