Baseball Fights Past Concordia (N.Y.), 15-10

LAKE WORTH, Florida (March 1, 2020) – The Stonehill College baseball team is coming home from their second trip of the semester with an overall record of 4-3 after their third win of the season over Concordia (N.Y.) College, 15-10, at the Santaluces Sports Complex in non-conference play.

Key Moments:

  • Both teams remained scoreless through the third inning, as Concordia put the first run on the board in the bottom of the fourth. With no outs and runners on second and third, Leo Alvarez grounded into a double play, but Joseph Impedugli had enough time to run him for a 1-0 advantage.

  • Swanholm led the game with five RBI
    Stonehill put multiple runs on the board in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. The Skyhawks first scored three runs off two hits and an error in the top of the sixth to take their first lead of the game, 3-1.
  • In the top of the seventh, Stonehill quickly got the bases loaded and Noah Lucier reached on a fielding error, scoring Matt Farragher from third. The Clippers then walked in a run with Thomas Quinn's at bat. Swanholm and McDonald each brought home one more run each to extend their lead to seven, 8-1.
  • The Skyhawks biggest inning came in the top of the eighth off of two outs, as Swanholm and PJ McDonald tallied back-to-back doubles, both scoring two runs. Once again Stonehill had runners in scoring position as Maher singled to bring home McDonald from second for a 13-run lead, 14-1.
  • Concordia had a late rally, as they put together nine runs off of five hits and one error, leaving one on base, cutting the deficit to four, 14-10.
  • Swanholm's RBI single in the top of the ninth and the Skyhawks' Matt Smith stranded one on base and retired three straight to defeat the Clippers 15-10.

Notables:

  • Jaena recorded his first-collegiate win on the mount, throwing 5.1 innings, allowing six hits, one earned run, and one walk.
  • This was the third victory over Concordia (N.Y.) College this season, as the Skyhawks outscored the Clippers 49-19.

Stonehill wraps up its second trip of the semester with a 4-3 overall record, as they will return to action on Friday, March 6 with a 7:30 p.m. night game against American International College at Nova Southeastern University's Baseball Complex in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Skyhawks will play eight other games down south before kicking off Northeast-10 Conference play on Friday, March 20.
