Wilde led the Skyhawks with three RBI and second homer of the season

MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (February 23, 2020) – The Stonehill College baseball team wrapped up its four-game weekend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with a tough 24-6 loss to Northeast-10 Conference foe the University of New Haven Sunday morning in the Ripken Experience Northeast Challenge.  

Key Moments:

  • Heading into the second inning, Stonehill (2-2) was only down three runs, 5-2, as New Haven (2-1) scored five runs on two hits, including a double from Huber and a grand slam from Taylor. With two outs, the Skyhawks walked in a run and then Mike Swanholm singled for the second run of the bottom of the frame.
  • Both teams went at it again in the fourth with the score expanding to 9-4. The Chargers homered, and connected for a single and a double for four runs total in the top of the frame. Aidan Wilde launched a two-run homerun to center field in the bottom of the frame for his second of the season.
  • New Haven totaled 15 runs in the eighth and ninth innings as they combined for 11 hits.
  • Stonehill scored two late runs, one in each of the eighth and ninth innings. Wilde connected for another RBI with a single to right field with two outs in the eighth, and freshman Chris Roberti lifted his first-career homerun over the right field fence.

Notables:

  • Wilde tallied his second homerun of the season and fifth of his career. He is tied for first with six other NE10 batters with two homeruns each.
  • Roberti hit his first-career homerun.
  • Swanholm and Shane O'Halloran each tallied an RBI

Stonehill will take a week off and fly down to Florida for three games, starting with a 7:00 p.m. battle on Friday, February 28 against Bentley University at the Santaluces Sports Complex in Lake Worth, Florida.
