Skyhawks match season-high with 17 hits

WALTHAM, Mass. (April 13, 2015) – Stonehill College matched a season-high with 17 hits and posted four multi-run innings in a 12-6 triumph at Bentley University this afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball action at DeFelice Field.

Nine different Skyhawks recorded hits, including the first six in the batting order, all of whom had at least two. Junior outfielder Chris Hoyt (Walpole, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) keyed the offensive outburst with a 3-for-5 effort out of the leadoff spot and scored two runs, while sophomore first baseman Eddie Bowler (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Junior outfielder Brian Campbell (Franklin, Massachusetts/Mount Saint Charles) reached base four times, going 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored, and senior second baseman Christian Baglini (Milford, Connecticut/Notre Dame High) went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Junior designated hitter Brian Hocking (Duxbury, Massachusetts/BC High) doubled twice and drove in two runs, while senior shortstop Dan Fratus (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs.

Senior righthander Neal Horan (Mashpee, Massachusetts/BC High) improved to 1-2 with the win after lasting six innings and giving up six runs on ten hits while striking out six and walking three. Freshman Matt Peters (Portsmouth, Rhode Island/Portsmouth) turned in two scoreless frames of relief, allowing just one hit, while junior John Hauck (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania/Penn-Trafford) retired the final three batters of the game.

Junior Brian Campbell went 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored against the Falcons.

Junior Zachary Littman (Abington, Massachusetts/Abington) led Bentley at the plate, as he went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI. Seniors Mike Muir (Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) and Tom Nagy (Fairfield, Connecticut/Ludlowe) each posted 2-for-5 efforts, while freshman Mike Samko (Arlington, Massachusetts/Buckingham, Browne & Nichols) and senior Ryan O'Connor (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) drove in two runs apiece.

Sophomore Jack Burke (Reading, Massachusetts/St. Johns Prep) took the loss for the Falcons after giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits through 4.1 innings of work.

After a scoreless first, Bentley got on the board in the second on Littman's two-run single to center field. The Falcons added another run the following inning, as Samko singled through the left side of the infield, scoring Muir to give Bentley a 3-0 lead.

Stonehill answered with three runs of its own in the top of the fourth to tie the score. Fratus recorded an RBI single and Bowler delivered a sacrifice fly, before Hocking doubled to left field and advanced to third with the help of an error, scoring Fratus.

Baglini and Campbell gave the Skyhawks a 5-3 lead with RBI singles in the fifth, and Stonehill took control of the contest with three more runs in the top of the seventh.

Now trailing 8-3, Bentley climbed back into the game with three runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by O'Connor's two-run triple to left center. That would be as close as the Falcons would get however, as Stonehill plated four runs on four hits in the ninth to give itself some insurance.

Stonehill (18-9-1, 5-4 NE-10) will be in action tomorrow for the fourth consecutive day, as the Skyhawks are scheduled to take on Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts at 3:30 p.m. Bentley (5-14, 3-4 NE-10) will hit the road tomorrow for a 3:30 p.m. contest at Merrimack College.
