Senior Eric Schneider went 5-for-11 with two RBI and four runs scored as Stonehill picked up two wins at Saint Michael's College today.

Skyhawks improve to 25-10-1 overall and 13-6 in conference play

COLCHESTER, Vt. (April 25, 2015) – Stonehill College piled up 25 hits and 16 runs on its way to a pair of victories at Saint Michael's College this afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball action at Doc Jacobs Field. Stonehill rallied from an early deficit to post a 7-5 win in the opener, before rolling to a 9-1 triumph in game two.

Senior catcher Eric Schneider (Camarillo, California/Saint Bonaventure) was among six Skyhawks to record multiple hits over the two games with a 5-for-11 effort at the plate to go with two RBI and four runs scored. Junior outfielder Brian Campbell (Franklin, Massachusetts/Mount Saint Charles Academy) went 4-for-6 with two runs, while sophomore first baseman Eddie Bowler (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) added three hits and a team-high four RBI. Senior shortstop Dan Fratus (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) went 4-for-9 with a double, one RBI, two walks and three runs, and junior outfielder Chris Hoyt (Walpole, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) was 3-for-9 with three RBI.

Senior Armand Rugel (Middletown, Rhode Island/Middletown) earned the win in the opener, improving his record to 6-0 after coming on in relief and allowing just one hit over 4.1 scoreless frames. Sophomore Aubrey Solomon (Groton, Massachusetts/Lawrence Academy) struck out the final two batters of the game for his NE-10-leading seventh save of the season.

Freshman Michael Young (Mashpee, Massachusetts/Pope John Paul II) turned in another impressive outing in game two, as he struck out four batters and allowed just two hits without issuing a walk in six shutout frames.

Saint Michael's was led by junior Matt Feeney (Portsmouth, New Hampshire/Portsmouth), who went 3-for-7 with a walk and a double. Senior George Buteau (Burlington, Vermont/Trinity-Pawling School) homered and drove in four runs in the opener, while sophomore Drew Salk (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial) doubled and scored two runs.

Stonehill 7, Saint Michael's 5

Stonehill rallied from an early one-run deficit in game one, taking the lead with two runs in the fifth before scoring again in the sixth and holding on for the win. Sophomore Jeremy Roberts (Reading, Massachusetts/Malden Catholic) got the start for the Skyhawks but did not earn a decision after giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits in four innings of work.

Freshman Michael Young earned the win in game two after striking out four and allowing just two hits in six shutout innings.

Stonehill struck first, plating a run in the second on an RBI single by Bowler. The Skyhawks added three runs the next inning, as junior Brian Hocking (Duxbury, Massachusetts/BC High) drew a bases loaded walk and Schneider delivered a two-run single, but Saint Michael's got two back in the bottom of third.

The Purple Knights then pulled ahead in the fourth on Buteau's three-run shot, but their lead would be short lived as Stonehill's offense kept rolling in the fifth. Fratus tied the game with an RBI double to right center, scoring Campbell, and later in the inning Bowler recorded his second RBI single of the game.

The Skyhawks tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single by Campbell, and the duo of Rugel and Solomon combined to keep the Purple Knights off the board the rest of the way.

Stonehill 9, Saint Michael's 1

The Skyhawks stayed hot at the plate in game two, and Young posted another strong performance on the mound, improving to 3-1 this spring.

Stonehill provided the NE-10 Rookie of the Week with early run support, scoring four times in the first with the benefit of a two-run error  and a two-run single by Bowler. The Skyhawks added two more runs in the third, as freshman Alex Hurley (Rumford, Rhode Island/Worcester Academy) recorded a sacrifice fly and Hoyt delivered an RBI single.

Hurley and Hoyt came through again in the fourth, driving in a combined three runs as Stonehill upped its lead to 9-0. Saint Michael's got on the board in the bottom of the seventh, plating one run on a groundout by Alex Holt (Framingham, Massachusetts/Marian).

Stonehill (25-10-1, 13-6 NE-10) and Saint Michael's (10-26, 4-18 NE-10) will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with two more contests at Doc Jacobs Field. First pitch for game one is scheduled for noon.
