WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 6, 2010) - Stonehill College picked up its first win of the season with a 4-1 decision over Saint Anselm College in a non-conference baseball matchup at Alfond Stadium on the campus of Rollins College this afternoon.

Junior Brenden Shepard (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) hit 2-for-4 with two RBI to pace the offense for Stonehill, while sophomore lefthander Eric Haughn (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) pitched seven strong innings to earn the win on the mound (1-0), allowing just the one earned run while scattering seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Junior Dan Corrigan (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) tossed two scoreless innings, yielding just a hit and a walk to notch his first save of the season.

Senior Ryan Healey (Lynn, Mass./Lynn English) was also 2-for-4 for the Skyhawks with two runs scored, while classmate Thomas Marino (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) was 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.

Junior Matt Sucharewicz (Peabody, Mass./Peabody) led Saint Anselm as he hit 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore Daniel DeCoste (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) batted 2-for-4, while freshman Robert Kelly (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) finished 1-for-3 with a double and run scored.

Sophomore lefthander John Healy (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) suffered the loss on the mound for the Hawks, allowing three runs, just one earned, on five hits with seven strikeouts and a walk over six innings. Saint Anselm committed four errors on the afternoon, which resulted in three of Stonehill's four runs coming unearned.

Stonehill opened the scoring in the top of the second when Healey led off with a single up the middle and later scored on a Healy balk. The Skyhawks added a pair in the fourth with a two-run single through the left side by Shepard.

That proved to be all the Stonehill pitchers needed on the day, but Saint Anselm broke through with a run in the home half of the fourth. Kelly doubled to left with one out and later scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Sucharewicz. The Skyhawks added an insurance run in the eighth as junior Angelo Bruno (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) walked a later scored on a sac fly by Marino.

Stonehill (1-1, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action tomorrow when it faces Northeast-10 rival American International College for another non-conference clash here at Rollins College at 11 a.m. Saint Anselm (2-8, 0-0 NE-10) heads back north and returns to action in ten days when it opens NE-10 play at Bentley University on March 16 at 3:30 p.m.
